    dont like veggies...

hi everyone, im new to this site so take it easy on me... im an ex-athlete who used to be in shape, but i've pretty much gone to crap. i'd like to get back in shape and am in need of some advice.

i never really have eaten "right". i cant stand veggies other than corn or mashed potatoes (not sure if those are veggies), so i really dont know what to do. is it possible to have a nutritional diet through supps or vitamins as substitutes for veggies or am i gonna have to hold my nose, grin and bear it, and shove some nasty vegetable down my throat?

with that said, i am one of the pickiest eaters i know and the foods that i do like are not exactly healthy i dont think. if someone would like to take me under their wing and see if they can come up with some diet plan that i can stand, please let me know. i know a little about nutrition from reading and studying as much as i have time to, but i know there are some very brilliant people at this site who could really teach me alot.

thanks for all of your help and suggestions, i really appreciate them. i'm looking forward to getting to know some of you on here in the future.

    Well.......here's my take on it.

If you want to be heathly, you are going to have to eat that way.
I guess, some might say, you could get everything you need via vitamins, but I don't follow that. There are some things best left to the body to process.

Supplements are just that - supplements. They are not to be used as your sole source for something. Vitamins are a supplement, there to supplement your diet - not become it.

Why don't you list what foods you do eat (or at least like)? (ie, your typical diet in a given day).

i figure i'll be called a few names ranging from baby to unadventurous to some that i can't list here, but these are pretty much the only foods that i like to eat. im sure there's a clinical name for what i "suffer" from, but i do not feel i am exagerrating when i say that eating foods that i dont like gives me a "sick" feeling. there are foods that i like the taste of, i.e. the taste of green peppers, but i dont like simply because of how they feel when i chew them. again, i know i sound like some kinda freak, but i promise ya, im a pretty normal guy about everything else...with that said, here's the list:
    pasta
    chicken breasts
    eggs
beef, steak, pepperoni, sausage, most meats in other words..
    almost any kind of cheese
    oj
    milk
    coffey w/ cream and sugar
tuna (the only thing that comes out of the water that i will eat)
    crackers
    mayo
    catsup
peanuts (only nut that i like)
    peanut butter (of course)
turkey, not too fond of but can eat
    corn
    mashed potatos
ummm.....that's about it. almost everything in my diet can be derived from the above foods

I think you need to get some veggies in there somewhere. Sometimes you got to do what it takes. I only like solid white albacore tuna but I don't always have enough money to buy it(I eat a lot of tuna and $1.29 a tin can get pricey) so I have to buy chunk light tuna. I hate it.........but I force it down. You just got to suck it up and take one for the team every now and again.

You definately need more veggies in there. You know, you don't have to cook all veggies, you can eat them raw. (Califlower, Carrots, and a few others are some that I'll eat raw, but you won't catch me eating them cooked ).

You really need to try some different veggies, and see what you can tolerate. Sometimes, it's all in how it's fixed.

I'll side with P-Funk on the Tuna. I like the Albacore stuff, but you won't catch me around the other kinds (and no, I cannot force them down), but I do like most other kinds of fish. (I got sick off a tunafish sandwhich at school when I was young, and avoided it for YEARS after). I also hated meatloaf until just a few years ago...turns out I just hated the way my mom made it (Course, now I can't eat it, but...)

I would definately recommend you start taking vitamins, but don't rely on them to be your sole source. Get as much as you can from the things you eat.
