What does it matter, if you are fat than start cutting.

"...Felt like I've put on too much fat..."

    Felt = Guessing

Guessing means that you do NOT have sufficeint information to know.

    Lack of Information

You present very litte information in your posted questions. Thus, it is impossible for anyone to provide you with any type of reasonable answer.

    Obsessive Analysis Paralysis

I understand your desire to make the right choices and progress.

However, you appear to over think things.

"Reseach is what I am doing when I don't know what I am doing." Einstein

Part of the learning process requires practical experience. That means you have to personally play with things to see how they work for you.

    Composition

Some the inforamation you post looks like a phone text message...poorly written, abbrievated informtion...a puzze of information that leave me Guessing...

    And Guessing is never good.

    More Information...

    is always better.

Get off the scale and step into the mirror.

Don't worry too much about the "weight" aspect. If you don't like the extra weight you put on then take it off and try again. Please read the stickies and don't over obsess about a little fat gain unless YOU don't like it.

Are you tracking your food at all? Eating alot of processed carbs and sodas at all?

    Give us more info sir.

    Thanks

Only you will know if your fat, but at 171lb to 176lbs is not much difference, 5lbs isnt going to make much difference in cutting. Just about everyone puts fat on there waist.. Figure out what weight you want to end up at say 170lbs, bulk up to 180-185lb then cut down to 170lbs, get your diet and cardio under control first, do a clean bulk, it will make it easier to cut...
