    Cut or bulk?

I probably already know the answer, but I thought I would throw it out to you guys as well. I'm 6'5" 205-210lbs. All the fat on me is around my belly area but it's not much. My instinct is to go ahead and bulk then shed the fat off later but I could be wrong. Just curious what you guys thought.

    Thanks

Cut untill your body fat % is at least 9%

If you have some belly fat I would say cut... This little bit of belly fat will haunt you later on in your bulk...

You will also have to cut for a longer amount of time when you are done with your bulk. The longer you cut the more hard earned gains you will lose...

You will be so much happier in the long run if you get rid of the fat first...

This is at least my personal experience...

Sounds like the right way to go. I thought it would be a lot tougher to get of that fat, and you confirmed that for me. Thanks for the response. Obviously nothing is going to replace a clean diet and lifting, but any supps that could aid me in my fat loss project? I know supplements with caffeine are supposed to be pretty helpful for fat loss, but I can't take any due to an anxiety condition. IronMagLabs' Super-DMZ seems like it might be a nice addition to my current supplements.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

They make caffeine free fat burners that have a combo of herbs that might help, but have you tried Green tea extract?...

It will decrease dietary fat absortion as well as increase hormones that suppress appetite. There is also a thermogenic component that reportedly increase metabolism by about 4%

Green tea does contain low levels of caffeine, but most extracts claim no increase in heart rate or jittery side effects...

Go to GNC and try it, if it gives you problems you can return it for a caffeine free fat burner...

But diet and cardio is the key brotha...

Even if you don't feel that fat but know you have a layer over the abs then do as ExLe says for sure. I started 2 bulks without shedding that fat layer and it definitely haunted me. I'm 5'10 and was up to 81kg in July. I'm now teetering around 72kg and I still have a thin layer left on the abs. Looks like I need to get down to 70kg to see it gone and I haven't seen that weight since my early 20s (I'm now 39). The initial cut to 75kg was easy then I met a huge resistance barrier that I finally broke. I was starting to doubt I could get lower than 74kg.

After I hit 70kg hopefully end of November and I'm feeling thinner skin over the abs I'm going on a 6 month bulk until the start of next summer. Then cut and maintain July/August. I'm thinking around 1.5kg per month bulk should put on some decent lean mass, anymore and you'll be putting on more fat than you want.

So yea, cut like mad so you're starting your bulk with a clean canvas. You'll be suprised at how much you have to cut to get to 10% BF. I almost quit at 76, 74 and 72 as I'm feeling super small and but I'm on a mission and I know the bulk will be more satisfying.

Diet will be most important, cardio certainly won't hurt. I've had 2 groin injuries over this monster cut (kickboxing injuries) that have sidelined my cardio for 6 weeks total but I've still been able to lose weight by a calorie deficit diet. And I do like to binge drink twice a month and eat pizza. Just gotta be super strict with yourself 6 days out of 7.

Excellent post. Pretty much already what I already knew, but never hurts to have hammered into my brain. I'm not looking for any sort of "magic" pill to help me get the fat I have off since they don't exist. But I did come across something called Quadracarn by Beverly Int. that seems promising and has gotten rave reviews. Might give that a go, but like both you guys said nothing will get this fat off like a clean diet and cardio. By my estimates, to get down to at least 10% BF, my ending cut weight will be in the 180lb range. I'll look like some sort extreme long distance runner for a little bit, but it'll all be worth it in the end. Thanks for the input guys.

9%? Do you know what a REAL 9% looks like? That's shredded. 99 out 100 people who cycle don't start at sub 10. 15% Is realistic.

I actually do know what 10% looks like. When I was playing college ball about 8 years ago I was 230 with around 7% BF. Obviously we were constantly in the gym 6 days a week whether it was lifting or on the court. So I don't expect to get to that sort of shredded by any means.

I think the average guy in the gym would be happy with the state of his abs at 12%. That's my goal for now, this last 2% is a fucking killer. And I wasn't "fat" in the slightest.

I would cut down to 9% and focus on building lean muscle.

12% to 10% is my goal for now. Definitely going to be a challenge but I look forward to it.
