What are your honest opinions on the controversial sugar substitute aspartame? I have consumed large amounts of this ingredient everyday for years, and never had I experienced any physical "side effects" (yet). However, I know people personally who claim to get headaches, acne or even depression when they introduced aspartame to their diet. Is it a nightmare or a dream come true?
I actually think there might be some truth behind this - if it's the same thing as in diet coke and diet drinks (damn I hope i am on the same wave length here), I usually get headaches when I drink alot (I mean pretty much 6 an hour or some ridiculous amount like that).
If it's true or not, I know one thing... it's my new excuse for being retarded
Stevia in a powdered or in liquid is a good sugar substitute!!!
I remember,we had this discussion last year, since then,I have been using it,no side effects ,well aside from my normal self...
Let me see if I can find the thread to link you to it.
Here is the poop on Stevia A few more threads about Stevia
Aspartame... if you ask me,
I never was able to eat nor drink anything with aspartame in it.
(I could ALWAYS detect it... )
Interesting responses, thanks! Truthfully, I'm starting to look at aspartame in a whole different light. (This is someone who put 2 sweeteners in her coffee...and I drink a lot of coffee!)
FitFreak, I don't think aspartame actually increases my hunger cravings, but then again I've never really been without it. Hmmm...sadly to say I don't think I can quit aspartame, but perhaps try really hard to cut down.
Dero, thanks for your link about Stevia, I can't believe I've never heard about this stuff before...now I just hope I can actually find it here in Mulletville!

There are no truly scientific grounds for the Aspartame scare. It is merely an aspartic acid, joined to a phenylanaline and a methyl alcohol. No potential to be "converted" phenylthaline (or you'd have the fuqqing most violent sh!ts known to man) or formaldehyde (this is just fuqqing rediculous...glucose has a better likelyhood of doing this). It has been fda approved to BE SAFE for human consumption since '81 and there are no credible studies to prove that this was a mistake.
Every substance known to man is toxic @ some level, even water... it's just a matter of word play and that is all this ever was.
What people never seem to realize is the economic reasons for creating scares. And once you get the "soccer moms" (no ofeence to anyone, just a socio/economic/age group) against something, you're screwed.
The only reason not to like aspartame is b/c of the taste and the fact that it changes the viscosity of the drinks in comparison to non diet ones.
Yes....the best is from Wisdom of the Ancients. Now Foods, Nu Naturals also have it...and I think Optimum either does or had it, and Optimum of course has the beige labels proteins, sweetened w/stevia!
