Scales that measure BF%

BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS
High Quality Supplements For Bodybuilders and Athletes. www.ironmaglabs.com
Do any of you have the scales that supposedly measure BF%?

Are they accurate?

Wife wants to buy one, but I am afraid b/c 1) might not work and 2) might work

If you use them ignore the BF% but instead pay attention to your change in BF%. At least this way you can see if you're losing fat. While the actual % may be inaccurate it would be safe to say that if you use the same device over time you can at least see if you're progressing.

I have a Tanita BF-626 that I bought, I've never been happy with the thing though, it's always been pretty erratic with the results (even weighting in on the thing twice in a row the numbers can change quite a bit).

if you really believe that it is capable of giving a consistent reading.

Very interesting timing on this thread. I just bought one over the weekend. It says I have 24% bf. This is laughable. The mainstay of my diet is vegetables and I rarely eat any junk - except for bars. You can see my ab muscles. I have never been over 14% in my life.

That night when I got home my bf had dropped 2% according to the scale. 2% loss in 6 hours. Hah!

These scales are shit. I'm taking mine back.

Good point Prince...although I'mspeaking of more advanced bioimpedance machines. I'm still very sceptical...my honest opinion is that we should ONLY go by what the mirror tells us...it never lies. Besides who cares about a number for BF...ie...our lowest BF level increases with age simply b/c we carry more internal fat...yet we would appear just as 'ripped'....that's why the whole concept of BF% testing is a bit of a waste.

I have one and I don't think it is that accurate. It will measure me at 17% and the five min later 15%. I had mine done with calipers at the gym and it came to 6.5% big difference.

Wink My 2 cents worth.

I too personally own one of those scales and I agree that I dont necessarily like them. But anyway through research and talking to doctors about them, you have to be very well hydrated for a fairly accurate reading within 3%. its measuring the time impulses travel through your body, so if you have well hydrated muscles its going to be much faster as for fat the electrical pulses travel really slow through fat. Also depending on the ones you have damping your feet just a bit increases connectivity to it for more accuracy. Anyway just my 2 cents worth.
