    Need a Diet for wife

5/2 126lbs she wants to lose 10lbs. She does Tae-Bo for exercise now and is currently taking Trim spa. She has had two children (I don't know if it makes a difference). She would like some info on a diet.

    Thanks,

    Tom

There are others who can probably give you more specific advice, but here's a good start:

    current diet

I usually eat a hard boiled egg and strawberries for breakfast, I sometimes will have a slim-fast instead. For lunch I eat a salad with tuna fish and low fat dressing. And for dinner I have a Lean Cuisine Meal. I snack all day on carrots, grapes, canteloupe, and yogurt. I have a hard time staying away from chocolate so on my bad days I will have a slim-fast shake for breakfast and lunch and that will kill my cravings for chocolate. I've been eating like this for about a month now, with the occasional slip up, but I have lost 13 pounds so far. I am also working out from 3-5 times per week.

10lbs isn't that much so I think a good lo carb diet would help her drop some weight fast.

Hi tjc74 - first off you need to start eating 5-6 small meals a day! Secondly you are not getting enough food AT ALL and the food you are eating are loaded with bad carbs - AKA SUGAR.

You need to start eating more and you also need to get rid of the Slim Fast. Take a look at the nutritional value on those things - check out the carbs and how much of that is sugar. I think 1 serving is something like 25G WAYYYYYY TOOO MUCH. :

Also, carrots, grapes, cantelope and yogurt are not healthy snacks. They are also loaded with sugar. As you can see here SUGAR is not our friend

You need to start getting healthy proteins, slow burning carbs and green fibrous veggies in your diet.

Before we make suggestions on what you should eat I would read through these articles. They will help you better understand why we eat certain foods and why we stay away from certain foods.

    Re: Re: current diet

Wow, that really helps! I read most of those articles. So now I understand that the vegetables I'm eating that I think are healthy are really just turned into sugar.

I printed out the diet that w8lifter posted so I'm gonna try to follow that for the next few weeks and see if that helps. My biggest problem with that is I don't know what flax oil is or where to purchase it?

And for the protein shake, do I add the strawberries to the powder and water or do I just swallow the powder, then drink the water and eat the strawberries?

Do you also agree with this diet?

Are you saying to not even use low-calorie dressing on my salad?

Welcome to IM by the way!

Ok, flax oil can be purchased at any health food store. It is a good source of essential fats and fatty acids (omega-3 for example).

For your protein shake, throw in the protein, strawberries, water and/or flax depending on when you're taking it, into the blender and make a yummy shake!

Post workout you won't want to slow down absorption of the protein as you want it going to the muscles ASAP for repair. But at other times, you'll add flax or heavy cream. Hope this helps!

OK, i started my new life today. I had a protein shake for breakfast w/ a teaspoon of flax oil, and I have to be honest ... it was very horrible. But I suppose I'll get used to it in time

I also can't seem to stomach a grapefruit, is there any other suitable substitute for a that?

What time should I have my 5th meal for the day, I'm trying to make an eating schedule.

And one last question, the lady at GNC told me to drink the protein shake after my workout, is that true? I'm not really trying to build a whole lot of muscle, my main goal is lose weight and get tone.

I hope I'm doing this right?

Use 4-6 frozen strawberries in your shake, in place of the GF...and the flax becomes less of an issue...

Space your meals 2.5 -3.5 hours apart, post workout nutrition falls were is may on that schedule.

Meal, shake, meal, shake, meal...optional shake at 6 meals..seems to work better, with a solid breakfast, lunch, dinner!

If you are getting run down and not recovering from your W/O's, then we can explore PWO shakes..

I'm feeling a bit queezy, I'm not sure if it's from the lingering taste of the flax or it's just from the shock to my body of missing "SUGAR" and "CARBS"

I ate a teaspoon full of peanut butter and that seemed to help a bit. But I'm worried that I'm not gonna eat enough because I feel so nauseous. Any advice???? Is it normal to feel like this in the beginning?

    tjc74,

My wife had the same problem when she tried this diet, unfortunately I don't know when it stops. I have read that when people start a low carb diet, they my experience headaches, naseau and dizziness while the body adapts to the different energy source, Fat instead of Carbs!

I haven't been counting my carbs, I guess I should be though. I'm glad to see that this is a normal reaction. I was a little worried that I would wouldn't be able to hang with this !!!!!!

I had fish and brown rice for dinner and my nausea is just about gone now.

How effective is CLA while dieting and working out. I have been taking Trim Spa and that just doesn't feel like it's doing much, so I was gonna switch to another supplement. I CAN"T handle Stacker 2's though, they just kill my nerves.

Does anyone know if Flax can have any adverse effects while taking Paxil? I noticed that Flax can be good for depression and anxiety, so I wanted to be sure they are ok to take together?
