About as confused as I can get!

I have read just about every article in this forum concerning nutrition, and as is human nature when you have two people you get three different opinions. I have much respect for all the knowledgeable folks in here, alot of well thought out posts. But quite honestly I am still somewhat confused ( my bad) about the optimal fat-loss diet to go on. I realize most of you are tired of re-hashing the same old stuff so I'm hoping someone will consider dialouge in a PM or e-mail format. Anyone care to help straighten me out? Please!

    Fat loss:

    1. Calorie deficit.
    2. 1-1.5g/lb protein.
    3. Adequate EFAs.
    4. Make the remainder of the calories up with carbs.
    5. Physical exercise.
    6. Repeat.
    7. Consider lower carb intake.

This myth floating around that you need not be concerned about total calories is exactly that...a myth

    What myth about total calories?
Yes I think if you want to lose fat you should be concerned about cals. It is also the #1 thing on TCD's list above. What is the myth you are reffering to?

It's ok to be confused. A big part of fat loss is also trial and error. What works for you may not work for me, but you can always try people's recommendations and learn to modify them to meet your needs. Nothing is written in stone.

I am not sure what you meant by the myth either. You need to expel more calories than you take in to lose weight, what you eat and how you train will determine whether it's muscle or fat loss.

You can PM if you would like.

    Sorry....explanation

What I meant by the calorie myth is that there are those diet plans out there (Atkins for example) Which states that counting calories are un-necessary. I found that hard to swallow. Hey, thanks so much for your replies.

I have never been one to count every calorie, but if a person does not know their body very well it would be a good idea to do so.
Shawn Ray, who successfully competed as a IFBB pro for many years, claims that he has never counted calories.

Diet like Atkins say that so people find them easier to stick to. Besides, the fat+pro meals blunt hunger for fun in most individuals, so they tend to eat less anyway and loss the weight.

The calorie balance is very much fundamental. Certainly people differ between each other in what works and what doesn't, but the energy balance is basic physiology that applies to everyone.

Eat more to gain weight, eat less to lose weight. The little tricks you do of food types, combinging and timing are what decide what type of weight you lose/gain - to a certain degree.
