my diet. I am about 240, at 5'10, I need to Diet (before I can start myworkout program)

    Meal one -
    4 egg Whites
    Bagel
    Protein Shake - ( two scoops) 44 Protein, 3 carb, 2 fat (g)

    Meal Two
6 Inch Roast beef sandwitch ( No may, no thing, just tomatoes, olives)

    Meal Three
6 Inch (Subway) Roasted Chicken Breast ( same as roast beef)

Myoplex Shake ( low in carb) + Plate of mixed fruits

    Cardio - Swimming

    About 7:00pm or so,

    Another Protein Shake

Now the total is about 1500 calories ( little low, but hey, I need to lose that crap)
    158 g carb
    166 g protein
    19 g Fat
    22 g Fibre

I was contemplating taking a flax oil supplement for omeg 3, etc.

Depends on your goals. (I've always wanted to say that) What's your BF%? Now, in my opinion....
I would replace the bagel with natural/steel cut oats. Where's the roast beef sand. coming from? Subway? If you're trying to lose fat...ditch the bread altogether. If not, I'd at least put some olive oil on the subs, and use whole grain bread..not that sweet wheat crap, if you can't eat anything else. (Subway salads aren't entirely evil.) What kind of fruits are we talking about?
These folks are going to jump all over your caloric totals dude! You should be consuming around 2880 to maintain, if my calc. are correct. And the swimming may be an issue as well, depending on your goals. (Enter DP w8, and/or P-Funk) Good Luck.

    Why not start w/o now?

You need more balanced meals. Include fat, protein and carbs in every meal. Your carbs should be slow burning (oatmeal, sweet potatoes, brown rice, green leafy veggies, apples, berries). You also need to up your calories. Remember the guidelines that i posted in Scotty's thread.

In your meals, you seem to overdo the protein, pick crappy carbs and you don't include fat.

Make up a new diet, pick a ratio of 50%/30%/20% P/F/C. Use the guidelines to find your approximate daily cals, do some math, figure out how many grams of each macro you need in every meal (4 cals per g of P, 4 cals per g of C, 9 cals per g of F) and post it up so we can take a look at it.

I agree with you about the protein, i don't know what i was thinking. Still, you're calories are low, and your meals are nowhere close to balanced.

You're metabolism is most likely screwed by now (depending on how long you've been at this low level of cals). A recommendation would be to raise your cals to maintanance and stay there for a week, to reset your metabolism. Then you can drop cals slowly, and not too much.

I'm not an advocate of 50/30/20...P/F/C...for long-term weight management. Sure you will lose weight in the short term but most people find it too hard to keep their carbs that low and when they add carbs they end up gaining back most of the weight. For a more moderate ...but sucessful long-term approach is a breakdown...IMO...of p40/C40/F20. Fits more into a 'regular' lifestyle and also reduces cravings.

You're going to get different opinions....try some varieties of nutritional plans and see what works best for you as well as what you think will fit your lifestyle in the long run.

I agree that 1500 cals is a bit low...are you doing any strength training? And..IMO...swimming is a great overall cardio workout...also utilizes most muscles. Definately add strength training to the mix though...even if it's just 3 basic workouts a week.

Gentlmen thank you.. Different opinions, but all agree that the caloric count is rather low for someone my size, and I have been lifting for about 5 years now,

I guess I did not want to up the calories so I wont lose control, but I guess there are alot of food groups out there than can offer an adequate supply of calories

I had a real problem with the idea of increasing calories too, but I have learned that it is the type of calories, rather, the source of the calories, that is important. I've increased my cal's from 1800 to 2800/3000 with no significant weight gain. Yan, P-funk and FF are on the money...I just stayed at a Holiday Inn last night....go with it.

whatever, i'm not going to argue about the ratio's because thats an individual thing. What i'm saying, is you need to pick a ratio and make up a new diet taking into consideration the basic rules of dieting (slow burning carbs, balanced meals, 5-6 meals a day etc). That would be much better than us telling you what to eat and when, because after you learn how to make a proper diet for yourself you won't need anymore help.

You haven't seen the Holiday Inn (Express) commercials? Maybe I should have said, "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on T.V." ...aw nevermind, just listen to Yan and the crew.
