BBQ sauce is loaded with sugar. If I remember correctly the rule of thumb for condiments is that if it adds more than 5 cals to a meal its a no no!!![]()

If you have to sauce it up, go with something like balsalmic vinegar and olive oil ,(really considered a dressing, but it will work well either way.) or mustard based sauces.....and like Jodi said, watch the sugar...its everywhere!![]()
AGreed...BBQ sauces are full of sugar. Personally I like to add a little salsa to most things....low cals (FF) and a source of some vegies too...just don't go overboard.
Searching for the right balance...
Jodi is right about the 5 calorie rule...however I want to point out...and somebody can link it if they want..Walden Farms (2 kinds, thick and spicy) and Atkins both have L/C BBQ sauce!

What's the problem with adding a little BBQ sauce or marinade to your chicken or beef if you consider those calories when planning your meals? I use sauces and marinades all the time, and I count those calories when planning. I do that, and I am losing weight just fine.![]()
w8, but are you losing as much fat as you could.....it has to do w/sugar and insulin resistance...I think this applies less to some, more to many!

bump.
Good point...we're not saying you won't still make progress...the progress you make just may be less than it otherwise would be if you dropped the condiments. IMO...if you need the condiments to keep you on track that is better than not using them and then deciding to drop the whole diet due to lack of taste.
We're all different...do what works for you!

If it were not for the marinades, I would be unable to eat chicken six times a week.Originally posted by Fit Freak

Instead of marinades I use shake on seasonings. There are a ton of them out there and by adding a little water and vinegar you can make marinades out of them. For ex: Montreal Seasoning, Kansas City Chix Seasoning, Taco Seasoning, Lemon Pepper, Lemon & Herb and so on and so on! A big majority of them you can get salt free too.![]()
