Hey guys. Just curious on approximately how many calories/day I should be taking in if I want to lose fat. 200 lbs.-very active, 15/20lbs extra fat(in my opinion anyways).![]()

Just a general guideline:
10-12cals per lb bw to start cutting (200x12=2400cals per day)
15 cals per lb of bw to maintaine
18-20cals per lb of bw to bulk
Start slow (bw x 12) and lower cals slowly over several weeks. Don't be to quick to drop cals or you will mess yourself up.

Count what you eat now, and lower it 200-500 a day depending. If you dont count what you eat now then you could end up eating more, or just be nowhere in the ballpark altogether.

Not to undermine you or anything, but thats not always a good idea. Most people eat either way too much or way too little. If someone's eating too few cals their metabolism (by way of Leptin signalling) slows down to compensate. By dropping 200-500 cals from your existing cal level you can possibly fuck yourself up even more (assuming of course that one is eating too few cals to start with). Thats why the guidelines that p-funk gave are good to start with, those should work for most people, and if they don't a weekly analysis of weight will help them figure out their caloric needs.Originally posted by Mudge

yeah, that sounds like what i'm gonna do, cause I'm definetly not eating enough right now, so going down any more would be ridiculous. thx.![]()

If your starving yourself right now then that should be obvious though. Again if you count what your eating now, that will show up in a number that you can look at, not guess at.

if i was 231 lbs, 6 feet (now im less), eating 3500 cals per day during bulk. then i started cutting. so 231 x 12 = 2772. so that means that i have to drop from 3500 cals to 2772? gradually? what if i drop below 2772?
