    What can I do?

This could go here or the supplement forum I guess...but I thought I would post it here.

Anyway, my problem is this. For the past week I have really been drinking a lot of water, probably about a gallon a day. When I got home last night and got undressed for the shower, I noticed that my sock line was very noticeable....I am retaining A CRAP LOAD of water....my ankles looked like I was 9 months pregnant with major water retention. Then, this morning, after I got dressed, took oldest daughter to school, got back (oh say 40 mins total), showed hubby my ankle, and only after 40 mins of putting socks on, I had already started an indention line on my ankle. These socks are not tight....this has happened only since I have started drinking the water heavily.

So, how do I correct this? I'm afraid to get my bf% measured in the next couple days because of it....I'm afraid it will make a huge difference.

I kind of agree with that also. How much sodium are you getting daily? How many carbs are you eating on a daily basis? A lot of carbs maybe causing you to store water. From my experience the more water I drink the more I actually feel and look leaner. Especially when I am cutting and on low carbs.

I agree...the more water you drink the less you should retain. It must be something related to....maybe stress?? diet, sodium..not sure what else...maybe hormones (estrogen)??

The advice and information the others have given you above is correct!

However, it seems strange that this would happen to you after a week..and at only one gallon. Things you can do immediately....like the others said, reduce sodium.....you can also add potassium, 99mgs several times a day (%3 of the RDA each), and a little B-6, 50-100mgs. You can also take a mild herbal diurectic like dandelion, cornsilk, uva usri, juniper..in tea, extract, or capsule....but don't become addicted to these herbs for water balance.

Now...don't be alarmed....but if you are well insured....you may want to discuss this with your health care provider, as a matter of fact...my advice is to, at the very least have your BP taken, and discuss this.......

Assuming this is bilateral....(both legs).... it sounds like you have something called edema, please have it checked

A woman here at my office was drinking a ton of water and her ankles got really swollen. So bad that she went to the doctor.

The doctor told her that some people cannot handle that much water. I have no idea why that would be, but she was advised to knock it off.

DP, I've always wondered how effective natural diuretics like dandelion, cornsilk, uva usri, and juniper (the ones you posted) are compared to something like say taraxatone. Would cranberry extract (if it exists) also fit into the natural diuretic category?

Yes, cranberry is a mild diurectic, but also what we consider a urinary system protective.

Dandelion works the best of the herbs I listed and along with Uva Ursi are the main herbals in Taraxatone

As good as Taraxatone or Watershed is a cheapie from Naturade called KB 11

Cool, thanks for the info DP. I'm looking to get a bottle of some kind of diuretic for the summer to use sparingly, like days when i know ahead of time that i'll go to the beach or some kind of event.

Thanks everyone. I did have my b/p checked.....I'm lucky enough that one of the babies I keep, his mom is an RN at the ER here. Its normal. No worries there. I think I may have had more sodium lately than I thought, looking back at what I've eaten. I'm gonna really pay attention to what I am eating and see if that helps. It seems tonight, even after walking at the mall all day, that they aren't quite as bad.

Thanks ya'll for helping!!!! I love this place!!!

p.s. might go to the health food store tomorrow and get some of those herbs you were talking about DP...thanks
