    Question cycling???

Okay, I need some opinions here. I originaly posted this in my journal. It is just an idea....has anyone tried this or anything like it?:

I have been bouncing the idea around in my head about trying protein cycling since I have never tried it before. The idea behind it would be that since my protein intake is high (1.5-2g per lb bw) if I drop it down to about .8-1g perlb of bw for about 2-3 days my body will go into a nitrogen storage mode (lol or maybe it will just go catabolic??). Then, when I go back to eating my usual amount of protein my body will absorb it more efficiently and hold onto/store more of it. Any thoughts? So on monday I am going to carb deplete to a)make sure that my protein intake is going to be super high and b)drop some water becuase my carbs are going to be really high when I drop protein in order to meet my caloric needs. I will carb deplete from mon-wed. My carbs will be about 50-60g, most of them coming in my first meal and post w/o. Then thurs-sat. I am going to cycle off of protein. Then I will go back to my regular clean bulk diet and see what happens. Has anyone tried this?

I do not see how it could have any effect since your body cannot store protein. That is why we eat protein every 2-3 hours to keep protein/amino acids available at all times for anabolism.

The idea isn't storing protein.. When you suddenly drop your protein your body fights to maintain an anabolic state. One of the way it does this is by holding onto nitrogen. That way when you go back to eating your normal protein intake your body will more efficiently hold onto and retain nitrogen.

I just hope you're not in negative nitrogen balance at a time when your body says "GROW!"

He wanted opinions........so why wouldn't going to 2.0 then 2.5 and then back down to 1.25 be a better plan (I am fully aware of the technique and theory btw)

Thanks DP ....How many days would you recommend I hang out at 2.0 before upping it to 2.5 and then 1.25? I would assume this should encompass a week, no?

I'm not recommending it at all.....l0l, I was just giving you an alternative....

Believe it or not, I don't think I've ever gone as high as 2.5......lol

No...try it your way, but since you already get 1.5 to 2...I'm not sure you will get the results you are looking for

LOL......Thanks, maybe it is a bad idea. I was wondering if you even though it was a good idea. Maybe I should drop it all together, or go back to the drawing board and think up a better plan of attack. thanx

    Yeah, why not....I'll try it.

What are your views on carb cycling during a bulk? Effective in attempting to keep fat off or bs?

    Please? I feel badly!

Try........2 days at 1.0 to deplete, jump to 2.25 for 2 days to overcompensate, back down to .8 fot 2 days, then 2.5 for one day.....give us BW and subjective/objective each day?

    Lab-rat-pat
    OKay, day one finished:

This sucks....I ate one gram of protein per lb of bw today. That means I had to eat so many carbs to get the rest of my cals in.....lol....an hour after my first meal I fell asleep. I don't know if this is such a good idea...I am thinking about aborting the mission before it gets ugly... Other reasons to abort:
    a) If I am having trouble eating this many cals from carbs now imagine when protein goes down to .8g per ld of bw.
b)2.5g of protein per lb of bw!!!!!!!I have never eaten that much protein and don;t even know if I can possibly do it with out a terrible stomach ache.

I think I may just go back to my normal mini cycle....it was working well and this thing is starting to scare the shit out of me after the first day.

    I don't mean to laugh......ok I won't....but consider fat not carbs?

It's OK if you want to stop.....the idea was actually "CHANGE"......both to avoid adaption/acclimation...and to cause a certain new adaption/response

There are plenty of ways to make "Changes"

Oh, I did the whole fat thing.....I may be crazy but I am not crazy enough to wat that many carbs....lol....After the first meal I was thinking "okay, to make this work I am going to eat way more fat." So it was about an even split between fat and carbs today. lol.....that would be ridiculous if I just ate the carbs. I don't think I would even be awake to be tyoing this right now. I think I am going to drop the idea though. I really don't fell good about it.lol
