    I have a question...

and I will apologize in advance if this has been asked before.

(Disclaimer...This is NOT a pornal question. I have no problems in THAT area)

What is the secret to maintaining muscle firmness between workouts? There have been times when one body part or another has been very firm for days afterwards and I have absolutely no idea why. Lately, every time I train, that part is usually soft and mushy again within 24 hours. Why?

    It could be several things......
What type of carbs are you eating?
How much water do you drink?
    Sodium intake??

the ONLY carbs I eat are green beans, oatmeal, whole wheat bread, brocolli.

I drink at 128 ozs.per day, 160 on training days

Protein is around 200 grams per day. Whole foods as well as 2 shakes per day

Sodium, not sure. I don't salt anything. Any that I get is in the food I eat.

For the amount of exercise your doing, I'm guessing you may not be getting enough carbs? Just guessing......

I agree, a big part of staying "hard" (muscle hardness ) is determined by your diet. Are you eating carbs post work-out? If not, your glycogen stores may not be getting replenished.

I also believe that Creatine & Glutamine help with retaining muscle hardness.

Muscle "hardness" the days after training may also be partly because of tissue inflammation.

I tend to agree with this statement. I recently took a 1 week break and when I finally did legs, my quads were really solid yet sore as hell.

I'm on creatine right now and have been for 4 weeks. Haven't seen much difference in mucle "hardness". As far as carbs post WO, haven't tried the dextose-in-the-shake thing yet. Seems to have been a lot of controversy around here lately regarding that.

Try Glutamine, I have no "scientific" evidence, but I feel a difference.

Yep, glutamine acts as a cell volumizer. It retains intracellular water which may also help strength.

I've been that route before too. I was getting great results with it, then they fell off. May need to start up again.
