    Children and Diabetes.....

    http://www.mercola.com/2003/apr/30/child_diabetes.htm

Most children with type 2 diabetes are overweight. Doctors blame the increasing diabetes trend on unhealthy diets and inactivity. They also point out that many kids down several 20-ounce sodas sold in school vending machines each day, which can easily add 1,000 calories daily, all from sugar.
This really pisses me off because our local school district took out the salad bars in our schools...and replaced them with soda vending machines that they claim contribute $250,000 a year to the school budget.....freaking idiots

America definitely has an obesity problem. My Mother was fat and her mother was fat and so on. I always blamed my weight on heredity and being "big boned" I did a research paper on Diabetes a couple of years ago and learned A LOT...in fact I learned that with diet and exercise you can reduce your chance of getting diabetes by about 60%...that is a fuqing big difference. That is when I got my ass in gear and started walking and watching what I ate and that lead to weights and so on. Now I am much healthier and lighter...and you know what? I am really small to medium bone frame

All too true. I review a lot of architectural plans for schools and I am amazed at the number of "fast food" oriented themes these people are using! Taco bars, vending areas....Junk.

Oh...ditto on the "big boned" approach, Buff.

Oh yea....they are removing the soda and snack machines...but the new high school (we only have one and we just built a new one that opens in the fall) is going to have several fast food restaurants in them. Our campus now is open at lunch....at the new one it will be closed. That is why there will be restaurant there.

Soda in schools is a big freakin conspiracy, just like the computers that were in some school districts that sold data on where and what the kids surfed, without parental consent.
