    Using nuts for EFA's...

I'm not a big fan of the omega3/omega6 oils (flax, hemp, Udo etc)because I hate the taste. I do like nuts though so I thought that I could just eat these to make up the defecit.

I know that walnuts and almonds are very good but what kind of quantities do I need to get a good daily dosage. What I need is a mixture of nuts to get the right omega3/omega6 ratio in my diet. Perhaps 100% peanut butter and something else to get the right ratio?

Do you guys have any recommendations?

You won't get the proper EFA's with just nuts.

Suck it up and drink the Flax If you want it bad enough you'd do it.

If you don;t like the taste of flax (I don;t understand why, that stuff tastes good) then buy some flax caps or omega 3 caps and take those. That will get expensive though.

Expensive is right! Especially when it takes 14 caps to equal 1 Tablespoon of oil and at about $10.00 per 100 caps. Thats alot of money!

Couldn't I grind up the flax or hemp seeds and put them on food rather than use the oil? Does anyone know how many grams I need to get the equivalent of 1 tablespoon of oil?

Would eating salmon a few times per week cover sort out my omega needs or does it have to be taken daily for optimum effect?

Approx. 1/4 - 1/3 C. Flax Seeds will equal 14G Fat. Thats alot of seeds and fiber

The salmon would help but it wouldn't be enough IMO!

you can use hemp seeds however they contain protein and carbs as well as fat....in an equal ratio however so makes for a good snack...but if you just want the oil/fat then down it you baby...lol.

Seriously if you put the hemp in a chocolate protein shake it tastes good. Like a chocolate nut bar.

If you don't like flax oil...too bad... No....being serious now...add the oil to your protein shakes!

Also...variety is good...so eat some nuts, have salmon a few times a week, eat some PB (natural), and continue sucking back the flax oil.

An alternative to the flax oil/capsules is to buy some ground flax meal...you can add it to your shakes, oatmeal, even bake with it!

Once again...IMO...try to get your EFAs from a variety of sources INCLUDING FALX OIL!

I have no problem with the taste of flax. But one thing that I mix it with that tastes really good is cider venegar. I mix 1tbsp of each and pour it on tuna or chicken or salad. It has a nice salad dressing taste to it.

I read and posted a research they did on flax and olive oil and I read that olive oil is much more beneficial than flax oil. So I stick to olive oil and have never tried flax oil.

Having a mix of oils is definately good to do but no where does that article say that Olive oil is better for you than Flax.

Most of my dressings that I buy are olive oil based and I eat Flax every day. Thats how I get my mix mono and polyunsatured fats.

The article did not say “Flax it better than olive oil” but it does says the benefits of olive oil. I have also read a few flax oil writings and it just did not convince me that it has more benefits over olive oil. I’m sure it has some benefits that olive oil may not have but for now I’ll stick to olive oil. In your case you take both so you have nothing to worry about

Well the article is not directly about Olive oil Vs. Flax. As I wrote on my post, that was a mistake sorry. It just talk about the benefits of olive oil.

Ok bo like you said I was not looking for omega 3 and 6's, but what caught my eye on the olive oil research it’s the benefits toward different kinds of diseases. My dad also told me about a research he read on a magazine talking about olive oil. With people who had some kind of heart problems. Two different oils were tested I don’t remember which one was the other one other than olive oil. Well to cut the story short some of the people who maintained a diet using olive oil even stopped taking their medicine.
