Your body can't process the cals from fiber so when you figure out your carb intake for a meal you deduct the grams of fiber from the total carb count. Ex:
Oats - Total 29 G Carbs per 1/2 C
Fiber = 5 G
Effective Carbs in Oats: 24G
I've noticed some people talking about figuring out the real carb value of a meal by doing something with the fiber grams or something...why do you need to do this and how do you do it?![]()

Jodi...is that how you track yours? I include the fiber in my counts (just a personal thing).....I know w8 always used effective carbs.
What about the caloric value of soluable fiber? Just looking for an explanation I guess ...more or less.....

Seriously 1/2 C of Oats has 2 G of soluble fiber. Most of us on these lower carbohydrate plans only eat 1/2 C per meal. Thats only 8 calories. Is it really worth telling new cutters to be worried about 8 calories?
Yes from what I've read soluble fiber calories do count but its so few calories on the low carb plans its hardly worth it.![]()

I never count my fiber for the same reason that Jodi gave......you can;t digest the fiber.....unless you are farm animal or something..........HMMMM...........any farm animals posting on IM?

Its definitely something to consider if you weigh and measure your food intake on a daily basis for a year or more; those extra calories removed over a long period of time can add up to be five lbs surprisingly quickly.
