    confused with diet?

    hi all,

I just have this little confusion about diet which I would like to clear up..

Just say my maintenance calories are 1500 per day, and if I eat 1000 (just a figure), theoretically i lose weight.. regardless of the fraction of P/C/F i consume..

If that is the case, then why should we avoid eating less carbs at night, eat more protein etc. to avoid putting on fat and building more muscle?

    Thanks in advance..

Very simple answer! Your metabolism slows down at night.

And I do hope that not really your caloric intake

WHile some of what you say is true....you will lose w8 when you're cals are below maintenance...you manipulate the macros to help accelerate fat loss and minimize loss of lean body mass.

As for no carbs at night...well...I have mixed opinion on it. For example it largely depends on your lifestyle. If you train at night IMO go ahead and eat carbs...you need to fuel your workouts and replenish glycogen after training. That being said if you train early in the day and relax all night...well you may want to taper off the carbs as the day/night progresses.

Another point on this topic...your ability to lose w8 while eating carbs at night or not eating carbs at night is gr8tly affected by your metabolism and genetics. Some people can get cut on a much higher carb diet than others.

IMO...experiment to see what works BEST for YOU...everyone is different...beware of just jumping on the bandwagon and following what everyone else does. If you do this you will never learn how your body reacts to different foods and macro percentages.

    hey jodi,

    thanks for your reply..

no it's not my daily caloric intake, just a figure i plucked out of the air..

but yes, i agree with you that your metabolism slows down at night, but doesn't your metabolism burn calories? and if that is the case, then regardless of whether you eat say 100 cals or carbs or 100 cals or protein at night, you would still be burning off that many calories anyhow, so why should it matter in consuming protein instead of carbs at night?

or are you saying, you should back off on the calories per meal at night? because your metabolism slows down and is unable to burn as much calories at night?

    Thanks for your help

Continual protein uptake is there to maintain muscle, if you are just eating sugar while you may lose weight it wont all be desired lost weight.
