I think that this is inevitable.

Here is why. It’s already being done in Europe and elsewhere and if we are to sell food internationally (rather than only just give it away to starving countries ) the US will have to comply with international standards. Also, a large and growing percentage of people in the USA are now diabetic or pre-diabetic and the trend is now continuing even into the very young school age obese children – largely due to high sugar and other fast refined carbs (and portion sizes). With the current pressure being exerted by organizations such as the Ban Trans Fats organization http://bantransfats.com/ and various nutritional lawsuits just beginning to emerge around the country and the HUGE Medicare spending on diet related illness (I believe on the order of 25% of our Federal Tax Budget!!) nutrition will get a massive media attention when big dollar penalities are awarded by jurors. At some point the government is going to put 2+2 together and figure out that obesity leads to an inefficient economy (will manifest itself as reduced labor productivity) and a big reduction in general tax revenues. Even the fat politicians will eventually figure out that they can’t continue to suck on the tit of the tax payer for as long as they might otherwise if they die prematurely from obesity so political self preservation will be a factor as well (hehe – had to put some personal rancor for this breed in here ). Of course the Tax Payer is going to become more and more unsettled as they figure out that they are subsidizing all this nutritional crap literally out of their own personal hides and health. Given all the above, the political pressure will be enormous and it will happen. This will then completely makeover the core elements of our food industry and call for a cessation on all forms of government subsidized high GI producers (no less the likes of: sugar, corn and dairy farmers) and we will have an interesting revolution in this country when fortunes are lost overnight (hopefully bloodless). Guess what, Doctors are not going to be too happy either since there will be a fast trend and transition to a healthy America – which is VERY BAD for the doctor business. It’s going to be a very interesting next 5-10 years…

Est unusquisque faber ipsae suae fortunae.

We Americans scoff at the likes of African witch doctors yet spend 100's of millions of dollars on fake reducing systems.

The only regular exercise he gets is stretching the truth.

His intellect is not replenished, he is only an animal, only sensible in the duller parts...
