sodium in diet..
hey all,
been reading through some threads and some emphasis has been made on low-sodium diets.. either by not adding in extra salt or choosing low-sodium foods.. is there a major health risk in having a high-sodium diet?? the only one that i've heard is that it tends to dehydrate you.. but as for anything else.. ?? thanks in advance for your responses.. much appreciated, greddy |

Most people here are eating this way as a lifestyle. Although we don't normally count our sodium intake, we do watch it or cut it back where we can. Too much sodium not only dehydrates but it causes water retention and most importantly aids in high blood pressure and heart disease.
In general practice I cut my sodium where I can. ![]() |

High sodium can lead to high blood pressure, so yes it can be a health risk. I can easily go over 200% sodium intake just trying to get my protein in through the day via various meats, I NEVER add salt on anything on my food - if your adding salt on top of that I think thats crazy, I never liked it at all anyway - I add pepper, garlic, maybe salsa and so on. I find salt discusting to add to food, you get enough already.
If your eating processed meats you are likely already getting quite alot of sodium, it will vary greatly depending on how closely you read the labels determining what you buy.
