Unless you are at the extreme end of the scale in terms of low body fat or high body fat a good rule of thumb for fat loss is as jodi indicated 12-13x scale weight. 12x usually provides about a 300-500 cal deficit - not enough to trigger starvation signals and will tend to keep metabolism at regular levels rather than slowing you down with bigger deficits.

I think the better idea is count what you eat over a 3 day period or so, if its pretty steady and your weight holds the same then you know now approximately your maintenance calories. Playing the guessing game with activity and such figuring it out on paper can be flawed.
