    Question Jodi-How much fruit?

I'm asking Jodi, but I'd appreciate advice from anyone on this issue because i've heard a lot of different opinions and there never seems to be one answer./How much fruit does everyone eat a day?I used to eat a lot of fruit everyday, until i found out it contains fructose, a simple sugar and when our body cannot utilize it it's converted to fat(at least i think this is right, correct me if i am wrong). So how much does everyone eat and which kinds? thanks a billion

Well if you eat too much of anything and your body can't utilize it it will be stored as fat. I suppose it would depend on the situation, your calorie needs, whether your cutting , bulking etc. I usually eat 1/2 banana with my oatmeal in the morning, then have 1-2 apples throughout the day then have strawberry's with my shake. Usually 6 large frozen ones. Of course it also depends on which fruit your eating. Apples are very good and there is no harm in eating a few throughout the day whereas bananas aren't so good.

    Oak, what are your goals?

As far as fruits whether bulking or cutting: Apples, Peaches, Berries, Grapefruit, Pears, Nectarines

Of course if your bulking or if you have a fast metabolism you can get away with a bit more.

It all depends on your caloric requirements and where it fits in. No one can claim one particular food is bad or good for your diet unless they know where it fits in. Fruit alone by itself has alot of good nutrients in it as well as fiber which helps slow down the digestion of the sugar.

Again depending on your goals as well as the amount of carbs you're already consuming from other foods will have abig impact BUT.....in a nutshell most fruits are fine....IMO I would eat just about any fruit with the exception of tropical fruits such as mango, papaya, bananas (all very hi GI), as well as watermelon and grapes...more high GI fruits.

The fruits Jodi mentionned are all low GI fruits but I would also suggest plums, oranges, bitter cherries, and pears.

What you have heard of in terms of fructose and stored fat...well all that it means is that fructose is only stored as glycogen in the liver and not as muscle glycogen. Basically you have nothing to worry about if you eat fruit in moderation.

Once again though if you're on a strict cutting plan you will be reducing carbs and therefore fruits accordingly.

I like this time of year because BERRIES of all kinds are always on sale in grocery stores. Blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries have been BOGO for a while now in my local Shaw's. Still $2.50 a pint though for the little berries.

    thanks for all the replies
when i made that statement i guess i was thinking about the cutting phase, but right now i am bulking.i weigh 190 so i take in (this is just an estimate of course) 250-300g protein and 450-500g carbs. I have a really fast metabolism so i eat every 2 hours, sometimes every 1.5
////I've realized that I basically have eliminated fruit from my diet except for my post-workout meal, hence my questions....
Geez, this is a lot of good information...i guess i'm going to buy some nutrition books i have so much more to learn

Just remember you don't need that much fruit, your liver can only hold so much.

They are medium on the GI. I still think its best to stick with lower GI such as I listed above. JMO

While oranges are super yummy, I agree with Jodi, avoid them if on a serious cut. Same goes for OJ, although I still sip some after a workout

OJ and oranges are completly different...I would never tell someone to drink OJ PERIOD. I still feel oranges are fine especially if you're eating them with protein and fat.

i usually eat a piece of fruit in the mid-morning and another in the mid-afternoon

usually a peach or strawberries in the morning and an apple in the afternoon

and i tend to eat more grapefruit when i'm at home

i used to be a banana fanatic until i found out they're not so great to be eating if you're trying to lose body fat
