    Yam Chips

Has anybody ever made yam chips? My wife wants to try making some. Just cutting them in thin slices and using some Pam. Does that change the nutritional value of Yams?

Go for it and tell me how they come out. I've been think I could do that and mix some pourable splenda and cinnamon together and top the chips with that and bake. Maybe it might come out like a sweet treat

Oh and it won't change the nutritional value at all

I would be interested in knowing too. I tried cooking Yams/Sweet Potatoes last weekend for the week and by the next day they smelled like hell. Would love an alternative.

Pam is a non-fat non stick spray here in the States. You don't have it out there as a matter of fact I don't anyone has it except for US and Cananda.

So how did they come out?

My dad has this machine he got off the internet and it makes chips. He puts in vegetables or fruits or meats and it dries them out and makes chips. He made some yam chips and dipped them in corn syrup and sprinkled them with powdered sugar and they were awesome. He has also made apple chips and turnips chips and pork chips and peach chips and prawn chips. One time he had a party at work and he chipped everything he could find. This fall he says he will make some cherry chips and chicken chips for my grandma's birthday. My most favorite one is walnut chips. That machine is awesome and it was $29.95.

Well...they didnt go crispy. But i think that was because the tempting smell of sweet potatos baking wofted upstairs and i could resisteating them then. I may have taken the out prematurely. However, i think they were in the oven for 30 mins and I turned them after 15. Thats what it says to do in Prince's recipe.

I think I heard on a cooking show (yeah I know cooking show, I love freakin' Foodtv) That the Starch in Sweet Potatos and Yams would not allow them to crisp like regular potato's.

Hey Rod, that's very interesting. Do you suppose it would make Bull or Cow Chips too? I betcha the Bubba Gump shrimp factory would be very interested in having your dad work for them with that kind of talent. Here is their link, I bet they are offering good paying jobs at a good rate too! http://www.bubbagump.com/
