    Olive Oil Calories

    I know most people recommend alot of Olive Oil in the diet and I feel it's very good but where do we draw the line on Calories? It has like 120 calories per table spoon.
    Ivé been doing a very low carb diet for a couple years but still feel bloated and get stomach fat sometimes and am wondering if it's too much OLive oil.I probably do about 1/4 cup per day.Does this sound like too much? What do you think Jodi? Tks

    You have to see if it fits in with your daily caloric intake and percentage of fat. Remember olive oil may be "good" fat but it is still fat and has 9 calories per gram. Your problem may be your low carb diet.

    I agree. Do you know your BMR? That is a starting point when dealing with calories and % of total calories.

    Actually I'm not really sure what my BMR is and can't remember how to calculate it.DUH??
    Ivé tried high low carb no carb diets and the low carb works best for my body.
    I don't eat cheese,rice, noodles,bread or potatoe except sweets once a week.Very little oatmeal,maybe two table spoons.Sometimes half a banana.
    I'm on vegies,some fruits and lots of proteins.Whey three times per day,tons of water.Ivé always had a very hard time with the gut since I was ten probably.My lowest was 34",now 36",Chest 43".But really want the stomach at 34"or less.Can't seem to pull it off.So now I'm looking hard at calories to see what I'm doing wrong and figure there's a bit too much oil.Now I'm boiling egg whites in water no frying etc.Targeting below 50 g's of carb per day with an occasional load up to 100 every three days.
    Training hard 4X week and swimmimg.Not doing any specific cardio as I want to retain mass and build.
    250 g's protein,50 carbs,50+ fats daily
    What should I do next? All suggestions welcome.Tks I shoot for about 2,000 calories per day but probably undercalculate the figure.Cheers!

    You want a balance of Omega 3 & Omega 6. You have too much Olive oil IMO! Do you use flax or fish oil?

    Thanks for the feedback.I take Omega 3 fish oil everyday as well as some flax seeds and about 1,000 of vitamin E.
    I think I'm going to seriously back off on the Olive Oil.I guess I figured I needed the extra fat on such a low carb diet and that I would burn it off.Any tips on measuring caloric needs? I'm 6'3" and 175 lb. In high school I was 205.Not really aiming for heavy weight but would like to get back up 10 lbs soild gains,Tks

    You won't be able to gain on 250g protein, 50g carbs, 50g fats. That's a cutting diet and even then a very very restrictive one for a 6'3" 175lbs guy. Plus your numbers must be wrong because 1/4 cup of olive oil is 8 tablespoons and that's over 100g of fats already

    I think extra-virgin olive oil is a great source of fats, I get almost 50% of my fats from it. But you need to get the numbers straight and balance out the rest of your diet in accordance to your goals

    Most people would say we need to up the carbs as well as protein the gain,but the bottom line is that if I up the carbs in gain fat period.Your right my fat intake has been higher than my calculation.
    So my question is what do we eat to cut and gain muscle at the same time.500 gm's of protein?? Actually I have made some gain recently because Ivé been using 1-AD.
    My goal is to get as lean as possible then start adding controlled carb hits for gain spurts.I'll work on the numbers.Thanks

    OK,Ivé got an improved plan.I'm only doing about 4 tablespoons of olive oil per day and uping the carbs with oatmeal,sweet potato,banana,adzuki beans and alittle skim milk usually in the morning for now and keeping it at around 30 g's each meal.May include a second carb up later in the day.Sound right? Tks

    Sounds good. It'd still be a cutting diet for me with only 30g carbs/meal but maybe you can gain, esp with 1-AD. If not, prepare to up the carbs more. I aim for 0.5 lbs/week gain on a bulk to keep it clean, though it usually ends up being more

    Thanks Fluffy,Sounds like a solid gain.If I gain like that it's 90% bodyfat then when I cut I lose the muscle gain also.Dilemma.After being on a high protein low carb diet for so long I don't really like a whole cup of oatmeal,too heavy.I actually digest meats better with lots of vegies and a few tablespoons of beans,rice or oats.But I do like a whole sweet potato or Banana.I'm not totally sold on grains.Bottom line is I'm not so sure we need such high carbs.I guess it depends on the form also.Gotta keep experimenting to find to the magic balance.Recently I'm hitting 300 g's of protein.Running a 70 15 15 probably.

    Cool, the key is to know what works for you. I hate force-feeding myself but that's the only way I gain (30/40/30 PCF with 3600-4000 calories on a bulk for me). If you can gain on 70/15/15 more power to you

    Have you tried a seriously high protein diet?And Wow! That's alot of calories.What's your weight? It seems we all have a different system going on in our bodies.Must be genetic factors.

    I've been looking around the board, seems most people here follow high-protein, low-carb, low-fat diets. I come from the high-everything school . I'm 27yo, 6'0", ~183 lbs, all natural, only supps are whey, multi and glucosamine. Gained about 40 lbs last year with some amount of fat of course, but still am at around 12% BF. 15% tops. Newbie gains, but pretty happy with how it's been working for me

    I tried 50/25/25 PCF at 3300 calories a long time back and lost like 1 pound in two months. It'd be a major effort for me to adopt a very different diet, will probably take half a year for the system to re-adjust if it ever does

    Oh yeah, before I started serious bb'ing I would gain fat on a 1500-calorie diet. Now I cut at 3000!

    I guess it depends on metabolism,age etc.I used to burn off alot more at 27,now I'm a young 49 but the body definitely changes,likes to store more.However I do feel as or even more pumped than I was at 20 something.If you can do it natural it's great but I guess at my age I need to jump start the system with pro hormones.Feels good.
    For dinner I had 1/2 lb of beef boiled,eight eggs,1 cup vegies 1 tomato and 10 almonds.later milk protein.Gotta eat more.Tks
