Maintain at target weight or cut at actual weight?

As listed in the Guide to dieting and getting cut:

Cut - 10-13 cals per lb of bodyweight
Maintain: 13-15 cals per lb of bodyweight
Bulk: 15-18 cals per lb of bodyweight

So if I want to be a lean 165, should I follow this formula:
    (165*14=2310 calories) to maintain?

    Or

Should I cut at my weight?:
    (185*12=2220 calories)

This is probably a dumb question, seeing as how both calorie amounts are similar. But do you see what I am asking? Should I eat as someone at 165 lbs maintaining or at 185 lbs cutting? Or does it matter?

    * Are you a lean 165? If so they follow the maintanence calories

    * If you are looking to lower bodyfat %, follow the cutting plan. Its hard to say what you should do as we don't know what you look like.

The main thing is how you see yourself, if you like what you see...maintain it. If not, figure out what you need. Lose BF or gain muscle mass and then go from there
