Weight Loss Help Please

Hey there, my name is Joey and I have come to this board with a little problem of my own. My weight is rediculous and I need to cut down something somehow because I am looking to look decently good in time for my Junior Prom. (Gives me about half a year to work on this stuff.)

Right now I am 6 Feet 1 Inches tall and weigh 250 lbs. This isn't all fat or anything, but I think IMO I have too much of a belly and... "man boobs". I have had this extra fat since I was a baby I am muscular though. My lower body is just about all muscle. I guess if I had to I could show you a picture or something like that through a digital camera or a webcam pic...

Anyway, back to the subject, how do I go about losing this weight? I am tired of worrying about looking bad in a bathing suit all the time, its completely rediculous.

What I would Do/Not Do to achieve this goal:

- Strongly dislike running
- Wouldn't mind dropping Junk Food
- Wouldn't mind dropping juice/soda and sticking to water
- I already do some lifting, Chest work has already developed Chest Muscles a bit
- Some pushups/chrunches/sit-ups daily wouldn't be a problem
- I do play a bit of the game Dance Dance Revolution... actually, quite a bit of it.
- If you were to say start sticking to just water I wouldn't exactly decline.. probably not a bad idea for my health in the long run
- I have 2 Chicken Paties and fries at lunch along with a chocolate milk and some watered down soft drink, this a bad thing? I'm not sure if it really is, but I'm sure it could be healthier. Who really knows if that stuff is really chicken anyway
- If I do not have enough to eat at lunch, I defenently get some sort of odd side effect later, such as headaches. Which indeed sucks

Well, I got 6 months to get in some decent shape.

If you need a picture to get a really good idea to know what I look like let me know. Please.

And of course, thank you.

What I would Do/Not Do to achieve this goal:

- Strongly dislike running
not a probelm

- Wouldn't mind dropping Junk Food
- Wouldn't mind dropping juice/soda and sticking to water
defenitly need to do that if you want to achieve your goals

- I already do some lifting, Chest work has already developed Chest Muscles a bit
some lifting needs to change into MORE lifting. Especially legs....ie squats, because leg workouts are excellent for burning cals and most people can stand to add LBM in their lower body

- Some pushups/chrunches/sit-ups daily wouldn't be a problem
need to so more than that

- I do play a bit of the game Dance Dance Revolution... actually, quite a bit of it.
not familiar with dance revolution

- If you were to say start sticking to just water I wouldn't exactly decline.. probably not a bad idea for my health in the long run
water is good, but don't forget to eat food

- I have 2 Chicken Paties and fries at lunch along with a chocolate milk and some watered down soft drink, this a bad thing? I'm not sure if it really is, but I'm sure it could be healthier. Who really knows if that stuff is really chicken anyway
your body and feed it!!! the fact that you have to ask whether this is healthy or not tells me that you need to read the sitckie at the top of the forum. What do your other meals look like? If this is your only meal......we have a long way to go. Starvation is not the key

- If I do not have enough to eat at lunch, I defenently get some sort of odd side effect later, such as headaches. Which indeed sucks

those side effects aren't odd......they are normal, it is your body telling you that you are hungry and starving.....lidten to
Please post your other meals and what kind of exercise program you are going to be trying. Read the stickies and try and set up a diet that you think is heathy that you can stick to and let people refine it for you. Start a journal so that myself and others can give you guidence about diet and training (I can help you set up a training program if you want).

Exercise, I play baseball and with the Winter coming in I will be playing Basketball also. Dance Dance Revolution is that popular arcade game where the arrows go up the screen and you need to move your feet to where they are.

As far as meals go, I Have breakfast which is something light before I walk out the door to go to school. Than school lunch, which cant be good for me and I will have to work on. 2 Chicken patties? Just re-reading what I wrote almost makes me sick thinking about all the bread I consumed right there. Than theres after school snack... which... needs to def. get worked with. And dinner is usually pretty good for me, my mom treats me right.

But the snacking in between I know will have to stop. I have decided to stick with water only during the week, maybe during the weekends once in a while I will sneak in a juice drink or something.

And the journal thing, where is a good spot for workout/fitness journal?

As far as lifting, to be honest my lower body isnt the problem here at all, its really odd. Probably because I played ALOT of soccer when I was young. And this DDR stuff is only reinforcing it.

I should probably provide some sort of picture, I suppose.

There is a journal section right herer at IM, just scoll down the forums page, where you can logg your workouts and diets.

Running and DDR are not what I am talking about for legs. Those are primarily endurance typye exercises. You need to do some resistance training to stimulate type II muscle fibers and add lean mass.

A picture is not necessary.

Post exactley what you eat in your meals so that I can get a better sense of the type of cals you are consuming. It sounds like you are undereating.

As for working out, how long have you been lifting for? It sounds like you are jsut starting out so a three day splitn may be beneficial for you, especially if you are active on other days (ie playing basketball and soccer.)

Snack is okay, you should be eating 4-6 meals a day. It is the type of foods that you need to work on.

And try to stick with just water......no fruit juice

Ok, I will just stick to water.

I'm not sure exactly what I have been eating as far as count in cal# so tommorow I'll write down exactly what I eat and post it at the end of the day... That could give somone a pretty good idea as far as my eating habits.

Btw whats a "three day splitn"? And no, I haven't been lifting for long.

Also, at my rediculous weight, how could I even be undereating? I eat as I always did (horribly, IMO) and I don't think I could possibly get any worse.

Untill now, of course, since I plan on changing my life

(In a good way, ya know?)

Right now the sport I am active is the Fall Season of Baseball.

Anyway, thanks for the help for now, off to bed.

a three day split is a trianing program where you would be doing resistance traing three days in some sort of organized routine like:

mon-upper body push
wed-legs
thurs-upper pull

or

mon, wed, fri-total body (maybe the best idea for you since you are starting out and can benfit from the overal basic conditioning this split has to offer.)

or

mon- total upper body
wed-legs
fri-total upper body

You can be undereating because you are not consuming enough cals to stilmulate a thermogenic response from your metabolism and are most likely catabolizing muscle (which is lowering your BMR and making you fatter) and storing fat because your body thinks it is starving.

Writing down your meals will help you a lot and it will help us help you.

Ok, so far I'v logged everything I have had today.

Breakfast-

Two Pieces of Toasted Potatoe Bread
Glass of Orange Juice

Lunch-

Two Pieces of Liverwurst in a sandwhich
Capri Sun Juice Pouch
Small bag of dorito chips

I usually purchase lunch in the cafeteria but today my mother decided to pack me lunch.

I have lunch pretty early in my school day so after school I have something to eat usually.

After School-
Piece of Liverwurst
2 Slices of Bread
Bottle of Water

Than theres dinner coming up at around 6:30 and thats my whole days worth of food usually.
