There is no meal by meal diet. Lots of people on this board are in college and eat healthy. Read the sticky at the top of the page titled Guide to Dieting. There are great tips and even a shopping list in there for proper foods.
Ive been doing research on a bunch of diets and have come up with the same results. More protein, 3-5 meals a day, and so on. My only problem is that i am in college and i cant really afford these diets. They are expensive. Ive tried them before. Now im trying to keep in shape with what i have, but is there any low-cost diets out there that are just as effective as these other ones???

being a college kid can be tough when it comes to purchasing food, I know because through most of college I was bulking up which means lots of $$$......Hell, being in the real world and trying to pay for my food is still tough, I eat a lot. I think you need to think about a few things:
1) prioritize.....how important is your health to you? I know you are a college kid and want to go out and have fun but you need to think about what you are doing and if it is healthy. One reason I can afford to buy a lot of food now a days is because i don't drink......BAM, there is about $200 extra dollars in my pocket to spen on food (going out in manhattan for a night can easily run you $100 minimum, so friday and saturday would cost somewhere near $200). Also, just think about everything you spend your money on now, since you are in college and are on a tight budget. What things can you do with out?? You certainly can't do with out food, so just get rid of or minimize how much you spend on unnecesary things.
2) You can try and find some sort of wholesale club where you can buy things in bulk...Or you can buy cheap foods and rely on them, you don't have to eat fancy meals here. A big bag of brown rice, eggs and some romaine lettuce are a realativly cheap. Also, buy whole chickens, or just the breasts, with the skin and bone. It is a hell of a lot cheaper like that. All I do is boil the chicken breast, let it cool and then I skin and de-bone it.
If you really, really want to you can make it work......you just have to use your head and put some effort into it.
3) Oh yeah, try getting a part time job at a supermarket so that you can get a dicount on food.

Sli,
I can understand where you are coming from. Please disregard Jodi's constant referral to previous messages as I realize that you are in a different situation.
As a way to save money, there are several ways to cut corners. For example, I learned quickly that rather than buying egg whites, I could buy the eggs much cheaper and separate the whites myself. Additionally, you may want to look into the cheapest protein shakes by looking at how much protein they actually give you per serving. Also, try to stick with regular foods rather than buying their fat free equivalents that are likely more expensive (rather than buying fat free cottage cheese, you may want to buy the regular stuff and cut some fat elsewhere).
My best advice is to buy things in bulk (chicken, etc...) and buy tuna by the cans. That's some good protein!
Excuse me but you don't join this board and start insinuating I don't help people here. YOU ARE DEAD WRONG! I help people that are willing to help themselves. There is not a single person on here that will tell you different.

No need for hostility, i was just looking for some alternatives, maybe even someone in the same place as me. I really dont drink much, PFunk. Bars are out of the question for me. Also, i dont eat eggs; which would probably be what most people incorporate a lot in their diets. I guess what i was looking for was past experiences people have had, not so much a shopping list. Thanks for the help all.
Try posting your current diet and we can critique and make suggestions. But please do some reading so you understand why? It will only help you and that way you understand the suggestions we make.![]()

I'm in college now, and $is tight. But i can manage to still eat a ton....look for sales, when shit is on sale, stock up.
Personally, i'm perfectly happy eating the same foods day in and day out. I'll eat anything you put in front of me, so when i go out to eat, eat at home or for a holiday its that much more special.
Anyways, i survive/eat great on only around $60 every 1.5 weeks, and that's eating 6-8 times per day. I buy the same things every time, its like clockwork. So For that $60, i get 3 gallons of skim milk, 3 doz. jumbo eggs, deli cheese, 4 cartons ff cottage cheese, 2 big things oats, 1 big ass box of white rice, 2 loaves bread, cans of tuna, 4 hamburg patties (93% lean), 2 or 3 steaks, 1 or 2 packages boneless chix breast, canned veggies, bananas, pancake mix, pasta and a that leaves some room to stock up on a few things on sale.
the protein i buy is HDT 6lb tub. i've compared it to every other protien in the store, adn dollar for dollar, it is the cheapest out there....only $27 for 78 servings at 21grams/serving.....
coming from a college student who eats like a pig, you can still manage to eat good while in college.
You're a funny guy, Sully, I like you. Dat's why I'm going to kill you lahst.
