question regarding water intake

everyone says drink at least a gallon a day... but what if i'm not that thirsty? i can't exactly force "feed" myself water if i don't feel the need for it... 500 mL per meal (5 meals a day) is about all i need... oh, and i take small sips between exercises at the gym...

so according to my calculation, i probably take in about 3L a day... a gallon is 4L i believe...

to those of you who drink mass amounts of water on a daily basis, do you feel the need for it? or do you just force yourself to drink that much?

A gallon, damn thats nothing. Thats the minimum and should be drinking 5-6L of water a day.

Here is an old post that will help answer some questions as to why you should drink so much water.

Water Thread (Why so much water?)

i'll read the post tonight when i get home from training... but i'd like to know if you guys are force feeding yourself or if you actually feel the need to drink so much because of thirst... if i should be force feeding myself than that's one thing... but the fact that my body doesn't seem to need that much water is another thing i'm wondering about...

Some days I have to force it if I'm not feeling that good but I'm so use to drinking 6L of water a day that my body yerns for it. If I don't drink it I feel the difference.

ok cool... thanks p-funk... that's the info i was after... i just hate feeling bloated but i'll do my best to spread out my water intake throughout the day...

i'm surprised i've been able to stick to strictly water this long... it was tough at first but now i don't even think of drinking anything else... i'd take a bottle of water over a pop anyday... sometimes it'd be nice to have a glass of juice but that can wait until i've reached my bf % goal

It is actaully not strange. When you are drinking that much water you are really hydrating your cells and moving water through the system, and making several trips to the bathroom throuhg out the day. So naturally, as you go to the bathroom, your body wants more water to stay saturated.

Yeah, drinking tons of water just becomes a habbit after a while. Now if I don't drink anything for like 20-30 minutes my mouth gets really dry.

blood stream.

yeah, my mouth gets dry and my lips get chapped. Also, if I don't drink enough water i get bloated. The more water you drink the less bloated you should feel.

I dont' think i can drink that much. i am just 126 lb and my daily life is not sedentary. How can i carry 1 L bottle all the way around.
I am even trying to keep 2 L a day. So any slight dehydration hampers the progress of muscle development????

So far i am relatively healthy. I may need to consider myself if i really need that much to optimise my muscle development.

Thanks.

But DEFINITELY dont over do it with too much water,,, there is such thing as dilituing sodium in your blood stream so much that it can have an adverse effect on your brain. sodium is essential in the blood and with too much water intake it can be diluted to dangerous levels,,,,it can cause serious damage or even death !

What does bodyweight have to do with it? You need water. It flushes toxins, excess protein etc. out of your system.

You don't have to worry about too much water until your over 10L then maybe you should be concerned. Good luck reaching that point though

I've noticed that too about myself when I drink lots of water [as I have a beer watching the football game!]
