Is there such a thing as too much whey protein? I usually have 2 shakes a day. I try to get as much protein from regular foods as i can, but it just doesnt seem like i'm getting enough.

2 shakes a day is fine. Definately make sure the rest of your meals are real food. Thats what I do too. 2 shakes, 4 meals.

i have between 2 and 5 shakes a day, and i'm cutting right now

always 1 in morning and 1 before bed

then i might have another 1 at college if i'm in for the whole day and playing basketball

then when i do weight or intense C.V. i will have 1 pre and 1 post

iincrease your shakes if you can't get enough from other food sources, its either that... or your gonna struggle to make any decent progress if your not getting enough protein

peace

Why would you do this and starve your body of other nutrition like this.

what kind of shales are you talking about?? Whey? MRP?

If you are havig 2-5 whey shakes i really hope you are mixing them with something to get enough cals and slow down protein absorbtion.

2 is okay, 3 IMO strarts pushing it and any more than that is ridiculous. They are called supplements because they rae supposed to supplement your daily diet....NOT REPLACE IT!!

Increase shakes is not the answer to making progress. I drink only one shake a day )post workout), cutting or bulking and the rest of my meals are whole foods. I have no problem getting in a lot of cals and I have no problem making progress.

Right now I have 2 scoops of Optimum whey and 1/2c of raw uncooked oats. After I am done with this mini 4 week cut and I get back from vegas and start my real precontest bulk I will probably switch to an MRP, maybe prolab lean mass matrix, or some whey and dextrose post workout....haven't decided yet.

Before bed I have 1.5c of 4% cottage cheese and some strawberries.

Right, that is one shake.......there is only 23g of protein and 110cals in 1 scoop of optimum. I need two scoops to make enough protein and cals. I don't know anyone that only uses one scoop of protein in their shakes.....see what I am talking about? two scoops=one shake.....if I were to have another shake I would have to take in another 2 scoops.

One scoop of Optimun Whey has 23 grams protein which is why most people have 2 scoops per shake in order to get the proetein in them, so it is not 2 shakes, how do you figure it is 2??

he asked what do you have pre-workout?

you replied with ''i have 2 scoops of.......'', check the posts above

i just have 1 scoop when i consume my (whey) protein shakes, but i have 2-5 a day

*the 1 at breakfast is with oats

*the 1 at college is either on its own or with a bananna or some little snack like that

*the 1 pre workout is on its own

*the 1 post workout is with maltodextrin

*the 1 before bed is on its own

do i need to up these to 2 scoops each serving?

Oh, LOL, I missed read his original post, I though he was asking what I have post workout. Pre w/o I eat a regular meal, whatever is scheduled.

As to whether you should add another scoop to your shakes.....How am I supposed to know. How much do you weigh? How much protein are you trying to take in daily? How much protein are you trying to take in at each meal? These are things that you need to set out for your own diet.

What I would add is something else to those shakes instead of drinking them straigh. You need to slow down the protein absorbtion. Whey digests to quickly.....It is not an all day protein.

any suggestions of things to add to my shakes?

i will replace my pre-workout shakes with a can of tuna and some wholewheat pasta or something, so that will cut 1 of them out

obviously i have maltodextrin in my post shake

i have oats with my breakfast shake.....

erm the 1 shake i have absolutely nothing with is the bedtime shake, i want something low carb before bed, so my body will burn fat instead of storing carb as fat

I drink 3 shakes a day too. I go to school and work full time and that's the only way I can get enough protein

Okay, here are some suggestions:

things to add to your shakes or eat with your shakes:
fats: flax seed oil, nuts, natural peanut butter
carbs: apple, oatmeal, strawberries

The before meal shake needs some fat or some fiberous carbs...why? The weigh is absorbed to quickly, you need something to slow it down so that you can stay in apositive nitrogen balance during your sleep (think an 8 hour fast....EEK!!). I suggest putting a tbsp. of flax in there. Or have some strawberries and natrual peanut butter. I like cottage cheese because it has casien protein in it which clots in your stomach and digests really slowly. You may want to get some casien or egg protein and mix a scoop of whey and a scoop of egg (that can get procey though). Some full fat cottage cheese is good though. Or put some natural peanut butter in the shake and eat an apple.

I don't like low fat cottage cheese because they remove the fat and replace it with other crap. Plus the fat is really going to help slow down absorbtion......Cottage cheese with a cucumber??lol...to each his own...lol......but that is okay.

Flax caps are okay but you need to take like 12-14 caps to equal one TBSP. of flax so they are not to cost effective.
