    Enter The Beer Drinkers

I am just a month into my new program after a three year lay off. It is going well so far, but I am having this guilty feeling everytime I have a beer with the guys. I drink on weekends only, nt even for Monday night football, which really sucks.

Back when I was training really hard, I drank like a fish all weekend and never had any issues keeping fat off. Well after an injury, and my metabolism slowed down I started to develop a bit of a gut.

So finally my question. Should I cut out drinking beer completely and move to liquor perhaps? I am not trying to cut out drinking all together, although I would be willing to put it on hold for a month or two in order to meet my desired body fat.

Sorry so long, I just thought some history may help. Any advice for a guy on the come back trail???

boos will winder your progress no matter what form it is in. Alcohol lowers test levels significantly and increases cortisol levels, and that is just the tip of the ice berg. alcohol is about the worst substance you can intake when wanting to nuild muscle or achieve fitness goals. No serious lifter can drink really at all, it is just that bad. Make your pick!

i guess it depends how serious you are

i've started to take fitness fairly seriously in terms of nutrition and training at least 4 times a week... but i'm not willing to cut alcohol entirely out of my life... i've reduced my alcohol intake significantly but i mean, i'm not looking to be a pro body builder or compete or anything, so the alcohol stays : )

    Look at it this way.

Alcohol is a substance that the human body does not need or want. The mind might but not the body.

The body's natural reaction to alcohol is to get rid of it. It's a toxic substance. In quantity it's poison.

So the question is, how much of it do you want flowing through your vital organs?

Good info here. I have weighed the idea of stopng all together, but at the same time I really enjoy a night on the town with drinks.

I too am not looking to be professional, ut it would be nice to lose that 30lbs over my waistline. With diet and cardio I am sure i can reach that goal though.

Thanks again for the advice keep it coming.

Just take some anabolics.. to make up for the lost testosterone. For the carbs... try a low carb beer if your worried about the high carbs....
