Question Why is oatmeal so good for you?

I've tried searching under oatmeal but haven't been able to find out exactly why oatmeal is recommended so much and what exactly it does. Exactly.

I've heard a bunch of things here and there, like it helps reduce clorestorol (sp) and body fat but I don't have a source for that information. Can anybody provide an explanation or a link to where I can find on?

    Thx

oat meal is good, but i prefer oat bran for texture it more creamier plus it helps when you are dieiting on low carbs becuase it helps you with constipation better then oatmeal !! plus it is more filling as well becuase it has more volume then half a cup oat meal. I eat half cup oatmeal dry and I was like OK what next, i/2 cup oatbrans and i'm full for hours !

Yeah, you have to eat between 2/3 and 3/4 cup of oat bran to equal one serving of oatmeal (27g carbs), which means you can afford to eat more oat bran to reach your starch totals for a certain meal. When I'm incredibly hungry, I eat a full cup of oat bran with another 1/3 cup of wheat bran added in for more volume and additional fiber, this adds up to around 18-20g of fiber and only 39g net starch...fills me up for hours...Oat bran IS creamier and is a tad lower GI because of the high fiber to starch ratio, therefore it makes it the better choice for cutting..I'm on a MAJOR organic corn grit fix right now, though...A trick is to add additional fiber in wheat bran and ground flax meal if you don't find your serving of oatmeal substantial enough to satiate you and you don't want to add more starch...The extra fiber won't hurt you, either...

    Peace.
