what to eat pre and post workout

well, before i work out, i usually drink about 2 scoops of optinum whey 100% with 12 fl oz of skim milk (i think) and a tsp of flaxseed oil.

i usually workout during the night, 8 pm, and right afterwards, i goto latenight dinner.

usually have a glass of skim milk, turkey sandwhich, and a scoop or 2 of tuna.

but since now I've changed my time for working out, probably around 4 till 5:30

ill probably be eating dinner right afterwards. should i be drinking a protein shake as well? because i just bought one of those bottels that mixes your powder.

should it just be 2 scoops protein and milk? or do i need to add something else or should i skip it entirely.

i read in some previous post that i should use PRo Complex from Optinum Nut for post workouts and 100% for pre? can anyone confirm that and why?

You would optimally take a whey protein with simple carbs post training. Why? Speed of digestion. Whey and simple carbs are easy on the stomach and will get to where they need to go......fast. After training your blood sugar is low and you need carbs to replenish the glycogen, you need protein to start recovery.

Solid food will take too long to breakdown. Complex carbs also take too long to break down. Getting these nutrients in fast also stops cortisol production. Cortisol is produced from training and it will eat away at your muscle.

It is also not just the immediate post workout that you should be concerned with. The 3 hours following a training session is important. I follow my post workout shake with a solid food meal within 1 hour, then another hour after that I have a meal replacement shake. That's 3 small meals within 3 hours. I do eat the majority of my calories before and after my workout.
