    I use stevia!

It is pretty potent, but it is a natural substitute, with near zero carbs. Also helps with digestion.

    To each his own

I use Splenda. Doesn't really matter (ther than Stevia, as far as we know as of now) they all can be harmful. There are far worse things in life to be afraid of than a little artificial sweetner

I've never seen 'stevia' anywhere. Where do you buy it from? Gonna try splenda too, thanks Jodi! I get crap from family and friends about drinking crystal light and using sweet n low in my coffee and recipes. Like smoking or drinking alcohol is any better for you.. (I do neither!!) I like artificial sweetners, and am proud of it!

Most artificial sweeteners mess up my digestive system...but I haven't tried Stevia before. I'd say give it a try and see if your digestion and moods, etc are altered over two weeks and then make up your mind to keep it or dump it.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.

I don't think it really makes that much of a difference what you use...Stevia really is the safest, though, and it tastes good IMO...most people don't like it, though....It's also more powerful than other sweeteners, which means you get to use less, it tastes great with coffee/tea/roasted chicory, IMO....

    Peace.

Stevia is the only plant based sweetener ( not artificial / lab designed) many companies do not use it because it is more expensive.

    I like Splenda:

Here's some stuff from the Splenda Website.

McNeil Nutritionals' SPLENDAŽ No Calorie Sweetener, the top-selling low/no-calorie sweetener in United States, is the only low-calorie sweetener that is made from sugar, tastes like sugar and can be used virtually anywhere sugar is used, including in cooking and baking. SPLENDAŽ No Calorie Sweetener is the result of years of research and testing of the sweetening ingredient sucralose, a substance that has been found to be safe for everyone, including those with diabetes. Unlike sugar, sucralose cannot be broken down and utilized for energy in the body. This means that sucralose provides a great sugar-like taste without any calories.

    An Outstanding Safety Profile
Safety studies show that sucralose is a safe and essentially inert ingredient. Conclusions from the studies include the following:
    No known side effects
Not toxic: No adverse effects seen in test animals, even in amounts equivalent in sweetness to 40+ pounds of sugar per day for life
    No bioaccumulation
    Not carcinogenic
Not genotoxic: Does not cause genetic mutations
No effects on fetal or neonatal development
Not neurotoxic: No evidence of effects on the central nervous system
Not cariogenic: Although sucralose is derived from sugar, it is not used by oral bacteria that cause tooth decay. The maltodextrin and dextrose that are added to the granular and packet forms of SPLENDAŽ No Calorie Sweetener have some cariogenic potential, but studies have shown that these SPLENDAŽ products may be preferable to sugar when comparing potential for causing dental caries
    No effect on carbohydrate metabolism
No calories or carbohydrate: Sucralose is not hydrolyzed or otherwise broken down for energy
No effect on short- or long-term blood glucose control or on serum insulin levels*: Sucralose is suitable for people with diabetes and may be used as part of an overall healthy diet designed to meet their unique dietary needs

Same was said about Nutra-Sweet (aspartame) in the 80s and now it has more than 300 negative studies and many cancer related articles.

Splenda is to young to know that is has no bioaccumulation
or is not carcinogenic, this conditions are presented after years of usage. I would consider taking no more than 1g per day and not taking it at all when pregnant.
