    Powerlifting Diet

I'm currently a powerlifter hoping to compete in the 114 weight class. Unfortunately yesterday, I learned that I had been putting on quite a bit of weight - 119. TOO MUCH! There was no way I was going to let myself gain weight upto the 123 weight class. I had to blow them away in 114. So I went to consult my physician. Now, i'm normally on a bodybuilder's diet and workout routine so everything he told me was kind of a shock.

    Completely eliminate fatty foods.
Limit yourself to only 5 carbs a day.
Run for at least 30 minutes at least three times a week. (Or another cardio excercise.)

Once he told me this I had a sudden craving for pasta and mashed potatoes, but so far i've not given in. Here's my diet for today:

16.9 fl oz. of water - Glutamine, Vitamin C, and Centrium Performance taken (0 Carbs)
Boost High Protien Shake (Appx 2 Carbs)
Salad - no meat (0 Carbs)
    16.9 fl oz. of water
    WORKOUT & CARDIO
Cell Tech (5 Carbs) - OUCH!
    16.9 fl oz. of water
    Shrimp/1 Crab Cake/Salad (Appx 2 Carbs)
16.9 fl oz. of water - Glutamine and Vitamin C taken (0 Carbs)

    TOTAL CARBS: 9 Carbs!

My first day on the new diet i've gone over by 4 carbs. Mainy because of the cell tech. I really don't want to drop Cell-Tech as I truly believe it's helping me increase my strength, but I need to loose weight. So my question is: Aside from scraping Cell-Tech is there anything else I can be doing to help the weight loss process? Or maybe there's another suplement I could be taking? Or should this diet be altered any? I'm open to ANY suggestions. Help Please.

:o Why so few carbs? You should at least have 15 grams a day.

Just going by what the doc told me He seemed to know a lot so I just took his word for it. I just got back from working out and the results were horrible I felt drained and as if my motivation were at 0. I think it's because of this new diet.

Lower sodium intake, and burn some water weight. Wrestlin style my friend. 9th grade year lost 13 pounds in one practice 3 hour practices are like help, in an illegal rubber suit " human condom " under sweat pants. Will never do that again

I think he meant that 15 grams of carbohydrate from a fruit exchange could count towards a bread exchange. Ex. Sprite has 30 grams of carbs per can. It could count as a fruit exchange and a bread exchange.

So what would be a good carb intake? (based on grams)

Smile low carbs & working out

I too tried the low carbs / high proten diet whilst working out. Energy levels suffered. So now I eat some carbs in the morning, every day, and increase this by about 50 carbs on workout days. Very few carbs are eaten after about 10am. Still shedding body fat and gaining muscle at the same time

Just take out bread, pasta, potato, softdrinks... and you'll notice big differences. I found that I managed to just eat enough carbs to stop the 'drained' feeling, but it was a helluv-a-lot lower than beore.

I love my chips too so it was hard, but i just eat pork rind instead now, keeps up the protein, cuts out the carbs. I know its high in fat, but better than eating potato chips right??

    Cheers,
    -Steve

Thanks Swag. I've been on this diet for about 4 days and am already seeing results in my weight. It's not just about carb intake it's about WHEN you take in these carbs.
