    The Potatoe

    How bad is potatoes for you if you are trying to loose a little weight or maintain a certain weight? I understand that potatoes become bad when you load them up with other things like butter and sour cream. I not talking about french fries or potatoes being fried, but what about baked or cooked in soup. Are they still bad if your trying to maintain weight.

    actaully, because of the glycemic index of a baked potato you are better of adding all the crap (butter, sourcream, cheese) because the fat will slow down the insulin response, as will the protein that should also be in your meal.

    When cutting, and when bulking just because I prefer the taste, I like sweetpotato's. They have a good amount of fiber and are a slow burning carb source.

    One more thing on potatoes. Lets say I was eating a bowl of soup that contained potatoes, and I picked out all of the potatoes from the bowl. Dose it matter if they are picked out since the soup was cooked with them. Will picking the potatoes out have any benifet if you do not want the extra carbs?

    If you absolutely HAVE to have a pototo, go with Red potatoes or new potatoes instead. They have a lower GI but as Funky said, you are better off with a sweet potato

    I think new potatoes are smaller and more round and they have a yellow tint. Russet potatoes are white and longer and porbablly the most used potatoes. You always know because they are usually the cheapiest. Russet that is.

    huh, I have never heard of a new potatoe. I probably have eaten them before but was not aware of the name........I am a dumb ass like that.

    New potatoes are probably the 2nd most popular potatoe. They compare to a yukon gold potatoe. Yukons are more expensive though.

    Yes, I think it would make a difference. I pick out carrots from my grams chicken soup for the same reason

    I read (or heard) somewhere that white potatoes are converted/have a similiar effect on blood sugar as that of a comparable amount of table sugar. (I'm sure this was a lesser amount, but you get the gist)

    I think it's really all dependent on genetics...I've seen people bulk and even cut on white potatoes with as much, or even more progress, than someone who restricted himself to yams, sweet potatoes, whole grains and oatmeal..personally I'm highly carb-sensitive and I don't even like using yams or sweet potatoes..I do LOVE my potatoes, though, in any shape or form....sauteed and topped with herb butter and sage must be the best way..

    I have 2 big baked potatos each day when i get in from college... its normally 2hrs before my WO's, topped with beans, cheese and a couple of chicken fillets on the side!

    damm its my fave meal, fills my right up and gives my body plenty of fuel for my workouts

    that would not cause me to lose LBM... stress, undertraining and too many late nights would

    baked potatos are meant to be great for bulking

    now if this was my bedtime snack i may understand, but comments like that are just lame... go on... link me to some article telling me how bad potatos are for putting on muscle
