Why do they recommend that you add salt when you cook oats?

    Why do they recommend that you add salt when you cook oats?

    I was jsut wondering why this is on the package instructions of every commercially-produced oat product...what is the functional purpose of the salt, anyway?

    I don't know, but I don't add anything except water.

    Some people eat oats with salt and butter I think of it more as a sweet hot cereal oppose to a salty one. Something like grits I would consider with salt and butter but not Oats

    jodi youve never tried the famous 1cana tuna in 1 cupa oats meal + 1tbs flax,,, tastes great,, i use salt substititue ( which is basically all pottasium and no sodium )
    youve gotta see me when i cook it at the gym when i have a break, all the members walk around like they just smelt a fart,, you know the look im talking about ???
    6 - Packs are made in the kitchen , at least mine was
