the eggs are called cleidoic eggs. chicken farmers call them double yolkers for obvious reasons. there is not a general consensus on how these things happen yet it seems to be early in the season when you get them. or younger chickens. of course other farmers will tell you that it is older hens and later in the season.. as you know, the yolk is simply the chicks nutrition so it may be a good thing. people worry about the 6 grams of fat ( or so ) in each yolk. i don't but many do.
this thing happens a lot so don't be concerned- the eggs are still good. it is often taken that it is a sign of a healthy hen to give two yolks per egg.
i would love to buy those US eggs having antibiotics and growth promoters given to the hens. For the same reason, i love eating AMerican beef so i can get all those antibiotics, Growth Hormone residue and most importantly my daily dose of 100mg of testosterone per slab!! ( no offense meant- strange sense of humor )
thanks for the great site!
For some reason the idea of double yolks really grosses me out![]()

yeah, for many people who only eat egg whites, the yolks are just pure evil! lol. but, in spite of the saturated fat in the yolk, there is no trans fat...... always a positive to be found!!!
I think you should eat a few egg yolks because they do have their benefit. I just think its gross to open an egg and find blood or 2 yolks. It makes you really think about what your about to eat

I rarely eat the yolks, just 1-2 every now and then. Last night when I cracked the egg I was so freaked! I called my mom at like 10:30 to see if they were ok to eat. (Moms know everything. ) All she said was they were safe, yet rare to find!
without wanting to cause a major argument on my very first day here, no one has any reason to worry about eating a chicken fetus in their chicken eggs. These eggs are NOT FERTILIZED. you would have to eat a fertilized egg to get the baby chick. The little bit of blood that gets in there is analogous to the blood that is found in the placenta. Or else, rarely it is caused by an injury to the hen while the shell was being formed. likewise with the little stringy bit of white stuff. it's just another protein. i am not slamming anyone by the way. this is a great site. just wanted to clear up a misunderstanding about egg laying.
People have their own issues about food; i cannot eat squid- it tastes and feels like pencil erasers. yet others love it!
J, just toss the yolks out if you like, you are in no danger of eating a baby chick.

kangaroo? my gawd,, what's next? koala? lol...
i am so glad that you aren't a paranoid nutjob.
yup, brings back memories of my days on the farm.....
the texture issue with runny egg whites causes people to lose it as well.
if we ever go to a seafood buffet, you can have my share of squid and octopus and I will have your share of all the yolks. not like this is gonna happen tho.
white stringy stuff; yeah sure, fill your boots. unless it's a texture thing. food's got to have what is called the correct "mouth feel". some constituents of egg have a ,, um... well ,, somewhat rubbery slimey feeling.
I had osterich the other daykangaroo? my gawd,, what's next? koala? lol...Tasted better than buffalo
Who told you I wasn't?i am so glad that you aren't a paranoid nutjob.![]()

About 6 months ago I cracked an egg open to find a bloody, harder than normal yolk. Since then I had not eaten eggs until last night.
After reading this, I think I'll have to go another 6 months without eggs... Yuck.
I don't know why but it grosses me out thinking that it's a malformed baby chicken. Ew.

you must read selectively as i stated that there is not a snowball's chance in hell of eating an unborn chicken unless you are eating fertilized eggs. Hens lay eggs pretty much year round yet there are seasons to everything and egg laying is no exception. The rooster would have to screw the hen in order to have the egg become fertilized. Sperm and egg = fertilization and then hopefully baby chick. most of the eggs have been checked ( light shown in front of it ). of the billions of eggs consumed each year by North Americans, it is possible but not likely, that a fmall percentage may be fertilized. this may happen if the rooster is left in the hen house.... he has his way with ALL the hens... man to be a rooster,,,, again.....( i dream standing up with my eyes open. )
keep avoiding eggs by all means, more for me.
