    Peanut Butter

Why is Natural Peanut Butter so much better for you than Low Fat Peanut Butter? I see it has a few less carbs, but a lot more fat. I usually put a Tablespoon in my Myoplex in the morning (Is this too Much) and was wondering which to use Natural or Low Fat. Thanks.

Natural Peanut butter is a good source of Omega 9. Omega 9 is an EFA.

Stuff like Skippy and Jif have lots of added sugar and trans fatty acids. Natural does not.

Hey Jodi is adding 1 TBSP too much to my morning Protein Shake? Doesn't this help slow down digestion?

Adding a T of natty pb is great to a protein shake if used as a meal replacement.

Fat does slow down digestion which is why you should leave the fat out if the shake is after your workout.

Lots of Sugar and Trans fatty acids?

that's simply untrue... 1 cup of milk has 3 times the sugar as 2 tbl spoons the UNnatural peanut butter just to put the amount of sugar in perspective... 3 grams...

Transfatty acids... saying peanut butter has trans fatty acids is like saying cans of tuna have mercury... sure, but it's such a small amount it's completely negligable...

    http://www.ars.usda.gov/is/pr/2001/010612.htm

Anyway, I recently switched to natural peanut butter due to the nicer taste... but nutrionally I don't feel that statement of lots of sugar and trans fatty acids is justified...
    Are you kidding me????

    Your opinion.

I've read the labels and I'll stick with the natty.

    It's all good

However, given time, energy and desire, I'm sure I could find more than enough articles to counter yours

Oh and I will say that raw nuts is by far better for you ANYDAY than roasted. Therefore raw natty pb is better. Even that you can't argue

Alright I'm in a funky mood - No offense Mayo, just pointing out some facts

Anything with Trans fat (partially hydrogenated) is bad. So again I shall say, natty is still better for you than commerical brands.

    From Jif's Website
Peanut butter contains a very small amount of partially hydrogenated vegetable oil to help prevent oil separation, which is preferable to most consumers.
    From Skippy's Website
Skippy peanut butter contains over 90 percent select roasted peanuts. It also contains extremely small amounts of vegetable oil stabilizers to improve smoothness and prevent separation, plus a small amount of sugars and salt to enhance the peanut flavor.

I didn't say Jif and Skippy had zero TFA's... I just said it's such a small amount that in 2006 when you look at the TFA's in Peanut butter it will say zero... it indeed will say Trans fat free...

But being the freak we all are about our diets, and after reading about the catabolic effects of TFA's... I am extra cautious... and have switched to natty PB... eventhough I honestly feel that JIF and Skippy are nutrionally ok...

You know what the best thing about natty PB? It's so much more expensive it really helps you control your portioning

just needs to be restirred. the seperation is naturaly occuring. with processed types with added sugars helps to keep the peanut butter together and from seperating. DO NOT pour off the oil from your natural peanut butter.. those are the healthy fats

All macros/processing issues aside, what do you (the panel) think is the best tasting natty p-nut butter? I bought some a while back, can't remember the brand right now, but it tasted like wallpaper paste!
