    Bear and Squirrel

I was looking through the amounts of proteins in these animals and I was amazed in how much there is. In bear there is 9.15g of protein per ounce raw. JESUS!!!! Chicken only has like 5. And squirrel has like 6.13 per ounce raw. And my favorite of all times because you know everyone in the world has atleast one of these in their freezers, armadillo has 8g of protein per ounce cooked! I think I may get a little adventurous with my meat choice. And the fat in bear is insanely high, armadillo is pretty low, and squirrel is almost none.

Sorry I just had to post this or I wouldn't be able to sleep with it on my mind.

I'm pretty adventurous but something about eating squirrel doesn't appeal to me.

To me squirrels are the rats of the suburbs.

and I would never eat a rat

I've eaten squirrel a few times! Its great!!! Wild game is far healthier than beef and chicken.

Edit: I think I read somewhere that squirrel is high in cholesterol. Not sure about that.

i have eaten bear. most people would not like it as it is extremely greasy and has a very oily texture and smell. the meat is both stringy and pulls apart in cords. Squirrel is a prized commodity in the American rural south where the locals enjoy eating squirrel brains for some reason. Of course, the brain is the main site of the jacob creutzfeld disease causative agent ( brain wasting disease otherwise known as mad cow disease ) so perhaps the fact that these people eat squirrel is self explanatory ( and circuitous ).

A bunch of nutty people routinely fly into the remote parts of the american Northwest and just about every part of Canada ( especially the Maritimes) to hunt and kill bear. they take back only the few organs that horny Japanese and other Orientals think are aphrodisiacs. Hundreds if not 1000's of bears are decimated each year for these people. the few people i know who eat bear have been forced to do it ( aboriginal people mostly ); other than that there is no reason to eat bear.

Come visit me in Sweden and Ill treat you to a nice evening of bear eatin´.

You can get it in restaurants, or if you know any lucky hunters, or hunters with no morals.

Oh, and it helps if you bring alot of money.

If you live near a gun club, they often have game dinners where you can get bear. I'm hoping to try some soon!

Well I have an entire leg of bear in my freezer from this hunting season. I can't wait to eat it. It is VERY high in fat though. If you go to local gun clubs, hunting clubs, or even a hunting check in station you may be able to pick some up.

I do believe squirrel is very high in cholesterol, probably because all they eat are EFA's and nuts heh.

hi jen, i called the american north west remote. not canada. the maritimes are my home as well. given our population density and the vastness of our land- remote could apply to this neck of the woods as well. anyone flying over the land could be forgiven for not seeing the people for the trees. This doesn't diminish the people who live in this land of ours.
I am all for hunting as proper animal management is crucial. Taking deer and moose seems fine as otherwise they would die a horrible death. Killing bear for sport or even food in North America when other choices are available seems to be something pathological.
