I heard it's not very accurate as figuring out your actual bodyfat... but what it is good for is that it's consistent and once you start to use it, you will be able to gauge your fat loss due to the change in the measurement...
Has anyone used one of those weight scales that reads your weight and your body fat% at the same time. I saw one at wal-mart for 40 bucks. It claims to send a non harmful signal into your body to figure out your bf% by stepping on the scale.
Do these even somewhat work or is it a waste of money?

waste of money.
Total waste of cash, a pal of mine used to have one that was telling him he was at 6%BF. This fella wasn't even in the ball park, I could tell that by looking at him.
So I told him to come to my gym and get tested. You should have seen the up-roar he threw when he found out he was at 13%. TOO BAD!!!![]()
I do my best to focus on the task at hand, and give 100% in what I'm doing at the time. Nothing else matters except the task at hand.

Least accurate. Supposedly hydrostatic weighing is the most accurate above 15%, but calipers for people below all the way down to about 6% or so (supposedly, from my reading). After that point you use calipers and a mirror, but track millimeters only on the skin folds.
They use bioelectrical impedance.

Scales aren't anywhere close to accurate in determining body fat.
Peace.

Agreed, I bought one and it doesnt seem to be accurate. I can stand on it, get a reading of say 13% (yes, Im fat), take a shower and stand on it again, and it will say 11%. Based on hydration levels, time of day and last time exercises, it can be a little inaccurate. I simply have used it at the same time every day, prior to exercise for consistency. I could be 45% BF though. Mine has a ""weight only" button on it also.

Lol the scale in my gym weighs me up to 20% bf. I was like, 20% bodyfat with my 6 pack showing like that? It the worst shit scale.

I just bough the accumeasure caliper from GNC for 20$ or so. I was skeptical at first cause it looks cheap but it seems to work well. Usually with calipers you need someone to do it for you but with this one you can do it yourself. Its a great thing to have.

oops

Yea they arent accurate..
My boss has one at work and i weighed in at 157 with 13% bf.. 5 minutes later i lost 1.5 lbs down to 155.5 but somehow managed to go up to 17% bf.
Not accurate at all.
is any bioimpedence method accurate? My gym offers a bodyfat testing service for 8 bucks where they send a shock through your body to find your bodyfat.
Most will say they are a waste b/c they are not very accurate. However, I have one and the last time I got my BF tested with calipers, that evening I got the same (essentially) number on my scales.Originally posted by once was fat

I'd like to try it again before I conclude it is accurate.
My Carb Cycling Progress - you can't hide from the numbers.
I have one. I haven't had the experience as others because I've gotten by bf done at my gym 3 times and what I was told at the gym was exactly what my scale read.

^^^Do you just measure the stomach region above the hip or are there other spots with computations being made to find out your body fat? I can't find anything on it.
