    pre/post workout meals

    Greetings,

I need some simple advice on pre/post workout meals. I have been reading threads, but they are a little complicated for my situation. I live in Russia and can not get suppliments, protien shakes, peanut butter, etc.

I need some simple advince on pre/post worhout meals. I get up and six in the morning and do not make it to the gym until around 10:00am. Besides building muscle, I am trying to lose fat ( too much ) so I do 30 minutes of cardio after each workout. Should I avoid carbs before my workout? Can somebody give me a little advice as what to eat such as brown rice, a can of Salmon, Eggs, bread, bananas....the simple foods I have access to.

    Thank you
    Mervin

They don't have paenut butter in Russia?? Man, life must really be rough there.

Eat a meal that has a nice amount of protein, fat and carbs before and after training. Probaby not to soon before since you will end up trying to digest it during your workout.

Yes, people actually live in Russia. I am the pastor of River of Life church in Moscow and have lived here for 11 years. I'm walking out of the door right now to work out. It is 8:00am, pitch black outside and about -15. Hard to stay motivated during the winter. Burrrr.

Don't you have buckwheat groats (kasha) there? That's a PHENOMENAL source of carbs, very low GI, tastes amazing, very very versatile (I prefer kasha for breakfast to oatmeal personally) you guys have good barley there too. Not to mention all the potatoes. Haha.

    Peace.

How to you know the word " Kasha "? Actually, in the Russian language, Kasha refers to all hot cereals. Yes, buckwheat ( Grecha ) is in abundance here. I have aquired a taste for it over the years. At first I wouldn't touch it because I thought it was horse food.

Really do not miss boiled peanuts. I do miss boiled crawfish and fried catfish. I eat some every couple of years when I go home.

Your replies about Russia are very funny. Before I moved to Russia, I thought all the gilrs wore grandma rags on their heads and walked around in big boots. Was I surprised when I got here. Most of the girls do not wear much of anything, in the summer that is. Russia is an interesting country! Outside of Moscow most people can not feed themselves, but in Moscow there are more BMW's than Russian cars it seems like. The two bedroom project style apartment I live in costs $120,000 and the supermarket down the road from my apartment has 80 checkout lines and employees on rollor blades. There are top of the line health clubs and the prices are through the ceiling. One club by my house ( reebok ) wants $2,000.00 a year and you have to pay up front. I go to a fairly nice modern club and pay $300.00 ( up front ) for six months and can only go Mon-Fri. from 8:00am till 5:00 pm

Sara, I am allergic to nuts. I developed an allergy to nuts, peaches, apples, pears and a few other fruits two years ago. When I eat the my mouth starts itching terribly and my throat starts swelling shut - interesting?

Yes, all of a sudden, along with terrible hay fever. Two years ago I developed a terrible case of hay fever. Itchy eyes with white puss, itching all over, runny nose, deep chest cold, I would lay in bed at night and cough and wease. One day I ate a handful of hazelnuts and thought I was going to die. Then I noticed it was almost all nuts, apples, pears, etc.

Last year I had hayfever so bad I had to go to the hospital for treatments. Never before did I have any symptoms of hayfever.

Some people just develop allergies when the move to different locations. My father never had allergies till he moved to a rural area and developed them.

I had been living in the same area for over five years when this started. As far as nuts go, I have no problems with peanuts. I thought it could have to do with the metal in my mouth ( I have braces at 33 yrs ) but the orthodontist said no relation. Abother interesting fact is that I was in London a few months ago and ate a few apples with no problems.

Tried to eat a couple of walnuts and almonds the other day --> No go.
