I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

I am wary since no long term studies have been done past 2 years in humans. In addition, a byproduct of its ingestion and metabolism, 1,6-dichlorofructose, is a chemical that has never been tested in humans.
Diabetics who took it in large amounts have worsening rather improved blood sugar control, the main target of this drug.
In other words, I'm not a fan.

the few times that I use a sweetner it is real sugar. we know what that does do the body
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.
I rarely put sugar in anything. I like to drink Tea (hot) and honey is my first choice there.
My wife brought home some Stevia, I didn't bother to read the bottle. I thought you used it like sugar, and since I was out of honey, I added a tsp to my cup. To say I was surprised would be an understatement. I thought I was going to go into shock.![]()

I use in maybe once a month to make lemonaide if im sick of water
If you look hard enough, your gonna find some doctor somewhere saying everything is bad for your diet in some way. Just eat things in moderation and never listen to only one opinion.
My two cents.
If Im gonna die, Im gonna die with some flavor damnit!

no matter what comes out, someone is gonna bash it.
every doctor or nutrition "expert" wants to make a name for themselves so they will do whatever it takes.
Im not saying Splenda is good of bad, but hell we all breathe air thats unhealthy, eat food thats got all kinds of who knows what on it, talk on cellphones that certain people swear will give us brain cancer, and watch tv that supposedly rots our brains.
If your gonna enjoy life, you gotta deal with the fact not everything is good for you![]()

So if you're not going to take care of the stuff you put into your body, why the hell are you into bodybuilding at all?
I'm pretty distrustful of Splenda, because a few nutritionist friends of mine don't trust it.
I'd rather use natural sugar, or honey.
What I find interesting is that Mercola states that the reason we don't know that Splenda does not affect blood sugar is because all the research has been done in animals and then he states that it has had adverse effects in animals. Either the research is valid or not, you can't use the same notion to argue against one position and the same to support your own.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

Mercola is wrong about it not being studied in humans. The only problem is none of the studies were carried out beyon 3 months. That is my beef with them.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of 3-months' daily administration of high doses of sucralose, a non-nutritive sweetener, on glycemic control in subjects with type 2 diabetes. DESIGN: A multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study, consisting of a 6-week screening phase, a 13-week test phase, and a 4-week follow-up phase.Subjects/setting Subjects with type 2 diabetes (age range 31 to 70 years) entered the test phase of this study; 128 subjects completed the study. The subjects were recruited from 5 medical centers across the United States and were, on average, obese. INTERVENTION: Subjects were randomly assigned to receive either placebo (cellulose) capsules (n=69) or 667 mg encapsulated sucralose (n=67) daily for the 13-week test phase. All subjects blindly received placebo capsules during the last 4 weeks of the screening phase and for the entire 4-week follow-up phase.Main outcome measures Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting plasma glucose, and fasting serum C-peptide were measured approximately every 2 weeks to evaluate blood glucose homeostasis. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance using repeated measures. RESULTS: There were no significant differences between the sucralose and placebo groups in HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose, or fasting serum C-peptide changes from baseline. There were no clinically meaningful differences between the groups in any safety measure. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that, similar to cellulose, sucralose consumption for 3 months at doses of 7.5 mg/kg/day, which is approximately three times the estimated maximum intake, had no effect on glucose homeostasis in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, this study showed that sucralose was as well-tolerated by the study subjects as was the placebo.
Repeated dose study of sucralose tolerance in human subjects.

Two tolerance studies were conducted in healthy human adult volunteers. The first study was an ascending dose study conducted in eight subjects, in which sucralose was administered at doses of 1, 2. 5, 5 and 10mg/kg at 48-hour intervals and followed by daily dosing at 2mg/kg for 3 days and 5mg/kg for 4 days. In the second study, subjects consumed either sucralose (n=77) or fructose (50g/day) (n=31) twice daily in single blind fashion. Sucralose dosage levels were 125mg/day for weeks 1-3, 250mg/day during weeks 4-7, and 500mg/day during weeks 8-12. No adverse experiences or clinically detectable effects were attributable to sucralose in either study. Similarly, haematology, serum biochemistry, urinalysis and EKG tracings were unaffected by sucralose administration. In the 13-week study, serial slit lamp ophthalmologic examination performed in a random subset of the study groups revealed no changes. Fasting and 2-hour post-dosing blood sucralose concentrations obtained daily during week 12 of the study revealed no rising trend for blood sucralose. Sucralose was well tolerated by human volunteers in single doses up to 10mg/kg/day and repeated doses increasing to 5mg/kg/day for 13 weeks. Based on these studies and the extensive animal safety database, there is no indication that adverse effects on human health would occur from frequent
