Here is what I ate today. Good start?

Well I finally added recorded everything I ate today to see what I am consuming. Here are the totals:
Total fat-142g
Total carbs-329g
Protein-255g
Calories-4085

That was in 5 meals spaced about 3 hours apart. I am trying to gain weight and have always had trouble doing so. I am 6'2" at 175lbs. I probably ate a little more today than usual but not much so I may have to add more calories per day. How do I know?

Also, I notice the labels usually tell you the calories from fat. Is there a set number of calories per gram of fat, protein, and carbs? If not, how then can I tell how many calories from carbs and protein I am getting?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

9 calories per 1 gram of fat
4 calories per 1 gram of carbs and protein

(142*9)+(329*4)+(255*4) = 3614

Looks like you're not consuming the amount of calories that you think you are.

A quick look over my record didn't expose any discrepancy. I will review tonight at work as well. Thanks.

Remember you don't want to add weight too fast otherwise you will be adding mostly bodyfat. 4000 calories is a lot of food - and may be 1000 per day more than your body is used to. Try adding only 300 per day for a week, then 400, then 500 and that should have you up a pound per week at least. You can increase more but the goal is lean mass, not bodyfat.

Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.

That fat just seems awefully high to me. I would at least slash that in half.

Ok, I see what I did wrong. I forgot to multiply all the values(except for calories) by two when I figured in the 12" sub from Subway. When I did that, it made sense. I did eat 4100 calories. I was eating "lean" cubed steak and got 91 grams of fat from it alone. The sub wasn't much better as it came in
at 56 grams. What kind of subs was Jared eating? lol Looks like this is going to be hard.

I added up my food today and got 4358 calories with even more fat. It isn't unusual for me to eat like this and I have been for 25 years. But I am so inconsistent it might be half the next day.

Chad, I don't have a prob with body fat. Not yet at least

What are some good foods high in protein but super low in fat? I don't want to get all my protein from whey.

Currently I am training for strength with low reps and longer rests but I am going to start adding more reps/less weight so I can start adding more muscle.

Should I be taking in that many carbs too?
I have never stepped up my eating quantity and held for very long so I am concerned with gaining fat. I just haven't yet. I have been blessed so far. I don't sit on my ass all day but I don't exercise like I did in HS.

The Carbs look fine. Just try to maintain a 40 40 20 or 50 30 20 ratio with a slight surplus. Carbs, Protein, and Fat.
