    Carbs required before strenuous activity?

Ok today i was talking to the nutritionist my team has about this carb cycle diet that I am on. She says that i MUST eat carbs before every practice and before every game or else I could pass out. I remember during the season before every game the team would have to go into the cafeteria and we would eat pasta or pizza or somthing like that but that was way before i was carb cycling so i didnt mind. I would like to know if "passing out" is possible if you dont eat carbs before strenous activity i play linebacker so im constantly running around for the whole game and i rarely get a break. Btw shes has a masters degree in nutrition and has been the nutritionist for this team for over 10 years.

I saw few people passing out at the gym because they tried to work out in an empty stomach.
IMO.. You could eat a complex carb 20 minutes before any hard activity.

Yeah I would bet that carbs before exercise is the way to go. Carbs can be used for energy during and after workouts. Just try not eating lunch and going to to the gym before dinner. But dude why question the nutritionist?

Well things are constantly changing in the world of nutrition- not to rip on her, but i'm not sure that nutrtionists have to follow up their formal education with a constant education to retain their status. R.D.'s are the only nutrition body that formally go through school, and are then continuously evaluated by another body.

    Good rule of thumb is:

2-3 hours before workout: Meal with low GI carbs.
1-2 hours before workout: Meal with high GI carbs.
30-60 minutes before workout: Snack with high GI carbs.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.

Does orange juice and whey make a good postworkout shake?
    Is dextrose and whey better?

Orange Juice could mess with PH levels in your stomach, I'm not sure if that would slow absortion or not. But I'd use dextrose with whey just to be safe. Dextrose would spike your insulin levels better also if that's what your looking for. ( PWO spike )

Personally I have performed a 2 hr wrestling practice (Much harder than a football practice based on experience in both) without having eaten carbs and didn't pass out.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.
