    Question Need Advice

I'm new to this forum and I need advice on how to lose fat since what I'm doing is not working.

I am 5'6", I weigh 135lbs (would like to go down to 120 lbs as before) and I am shaped as a pear. When I do lose weight, it's usually around my face and arms but I need to lose on my thighs, butt, hips and lower abdomen.

    My usual diet consists of:

    9 am: Special K bar

12:30 pm: chicken or Home made lean meat sauce with a couple of pasta inside

5:30 pm: Cardio (step master 2-3 times a week) and Yoga (once a week)

7 pm: Chicken or home made lean meat sauce

My problem is that I live a hectic lifestyle that always changes so a regular routine doesn't work for me.

I cannot drink milk or even the substitute, I eat a very minimal selection of fruits and vegetables and I am allergic to fish/sea food.

I do sometimes eat junk food.

    Can anyone help me?

That's all I can eat. My job doesn't allow me to eat when I want, and I don't have a big appetite.

I do some weight training but it's not scheduled, I do it when I can.

Sneak to the bathroom with some food. I used to do that till I found out my bosses are not anal.

If you would see what our bathrroms look like, trust me, you wouldn't want to do your "business" let alone eat...

If I win the super 7 tonight (lottery), I won't be having this problem anymore, but until then I have no choice.

It's not that I'm fat, but I have a "j-lo" kind of butt (but not as big) and clothes do not cater to it so i have no choice.

    Do you have any advice?

    Janna,

To me you need to eat more. 5 to 6 meals per day.

Also, I have found with me, the place I gain weight first is always the last to go. (my butt and legs)

First, J-Lo has a big ass in your estimation, but apparently she doesn't worry about losing fat. YOU have a smaller ass than she does but your trying to lose fat and you have trouble finding clothes to fit your body type???? What are you not telling us? If you are J-Lo with a smaller ass then why try to lose weight?

Ok, my ass is not as big as hers, it's just the same shape, meaning it's round and I can't fit into clothes because of it. All my friends think I'm crazy for wanting to lose it but it's a hassle to find clothes. I can't do some of the butt exercises because it will only make it rounder and I don't want that.

Better to have a round ass than a flat ass, my grandpa used to say.

I know that it's better than a flat ass, but (no pun intented) It bothers me. Is there any excercises for butt and thighs that won't make them bigger or rounder?

I think you meant no bun intended.

it all depends on whether you have more muscle or more fat in the area.

Vanity, I think it's 50/50. I do have muscle there from the extensive sports I use to do, but lately, there's been fat growing there. Must be because I got married, lol.

well, as long as you didn't marry an ass , you should be ok.

A firm, tight , muscular ass , the kind you get from sticking to a good diet and exercise plan will always look smaller than a soft ,flabby, fatty ass.

Muscle is denser and heavier than fat and it takes up alot less space. So don't be afraid to work your ass , it will actually look leaner and smaller.

What can happen though initially if you have alot of fat in the area, is that the muscle growing underneath will push the fat out and this can make it look bigger. This is why diet and a good aerobic plan are important.

Working your butt and thighs does not make your ass grow. Eating like shit and sitting on it all day makes it grow.

Well, by my lovely genes, I have naturaly a round butt. I do a lot of the stair master since I use those muscles the most. Is that a good aerobic exercise or I'm I using the wrong one? I'm trying to cut out the carbs cause I noticed that they make me gain weight there. What other exercise can I do and for how long should I be doing it?

Stair master is fine. There are many things you can do for cardio. The important thing is to pick something you like doing and that you will be able to do consistently.

If you're just starting out you could try cardio 3 times a week (20 minutes) and two fullbody strength workouts a week. (20-30 minutes).

Start small, keep things simple and build from there. These are very basic and general recommendations. I have no clue as to what your goals or schedule are like.

Vanity, I can go to the gym Tuesday, wednesday, Friday and the weekend. My goal is to burn fat from my stomach down before the summer comes. I weigh about 135 Lbs (depending on the days) and I would like to go to 120 lbs. My metabolism is not as fast as it used to be so it's harder for me to drop pounds like I use to.

Jodi, It's hard for me to eat 5-6 meals a day. If I snack in between meals (easy food with no cooking required) like a protein shake or nuts, will that be ok too?

yeah, Janna, read Jodi's stickies in the Diet and Nutrition section. They offer sound tips and advice. You need to get more accurate info coz some of the things you think are true are actually myths.
Ex. spot reducing and getting a huge ass from doing thigh/leg exercises. Get up off that ass and get to work.

I know that you can't spot reduce. What I am confused about is food. I read the stickies and I wrote down the shopping list, but half the food on it I can't eat. I also noticed that you had diet soda on the list, i hear that is bad for you, even at 1 a day. I'm so confused

Don't try to revolutionize your whole way of life in one day.

Learn and start with the basics 1st.

Personally, I avoid anything with artificial sweetners and refined sugars but some people have a hard time doing that.

You have to find what is practical and works for you personally.
