    Question Smuckers Light SF Jams?

I'm confused...Smucker's website says their Light Sugar Free Jams (containing Nutrasweet) breakdown as follows

1 Tbs = 10 calories and 5 grams of carbs

Calories should be 20 if there are 5 grams of carbs? (I know 10 calories won't change the world...but I'm confused)

    Wassup with that?

Well, they use maltodextrin as a filler, so that adds atleast some calories...

I don't know about the 5 total carbs, though. It should = 20 calories, right?

Don't forget that if it is less than 1G P/F/C per serving, they are not required to list that < 1G. So that could add a few cals too.

see i thought it was usally the opposite - they'd give the calories but maybe find some way to slither out of the true carb count.

i'll call it 20 calories, try to believe the carbs are 5...and eat less than a Tbs. thanks!

yah, Im sure that they have simply deducted the calories from the artificial sweetners that they are using... thats all.
some foods that you buy actually deduct the calories from the fiber as well.
    have to watch those companys!!

They give an 800 number on the bottle. I have tried to call a few times but haven't gotten through....Someone else give it a try, eh. Ask for macronutrient breakdown, for 1 jar, not one tablespoon. Who the heck eats a tablespoon. Sneaky bastards.

My guess is that they are counting the calories from polydextrose to get ~10

    Logic would go like

From the five grams carbs, we get

~1 gram or so from the raspberries (afterall that is the first ingredient

~3 grams polydextrose (figure about the same number of calories as fiber)

~<1 gram malto since it is listed fourth

Add those up and you get around ten. I would really like to know the exact breakdown though (just to be anal and make them give out the info)

FYI, I just quit buying the stuff as it is too expensive. I will make my own from something other than polydextrose since we can't purchase that yet.

Then by all means check this link

If some one is willing to give one (some) of these recipes a shot, it would be sweet. I would love to be able to make this stuff by the quart or gallon rather than those oh so puny 12.75 oz. jars
