    Diet Help :)

Hi - I was just wondering if someone could help me out with some questions. I need to lose about 20 lbs. Last year I was on a diet that worked and I loved the food I ate - I just never had to lose this much weight. I have to stand up in a wedding this summer and need to start looking good!

When trying to lose fat should I just do cardio????? How much cardio should I do??? And what kind????

    Here's my diet.............

    5:30 - 6 am - elliptical or running
    6:30 am - 1 cup Special K w/ 8 oz skim milk
    I work 7-3:30 am Monday - Friday
9 am - 1/4 cup fat free cottage cheese and 1/3 cup instant Quaker oatmeal.
Noon - Fat free yogurt and 1 bannana
Workout at gym 1-2 pm -- I used to do weights Mon, Wed & Frid. and cardio on Tues & Thurs.
2 pm bagel w/ 8 oz skim milk
4 pm - workout - cardio or walking for 30-45 min.
5:30 eat chicken salad w/ fat free dressing and more veggies
*if I have a big sweet tooth - I eat a coupld of twizzlers???
9 pm - 2 oz tuna before bed!

    What do you think?????

You should weight train and do some cardio, if I had to pick one over the other it would be weight training.

do you know the macro breakdown of this diet and the calories?

you say 20 pounds, how did you come up with that number? do you know your current bf%? what is your current weight?

overall your diet is low in calories, low in protein, a bit high in carbs and sugar, i.e. the banana, milk and bagels.

if you're serious you cannot eat twizzlers before bed! if anything pick one day per week that will be a cheat day. for a sugar craving try something like an apple, but not at night!

No you need to weight train as well. Building muscle, even if a little is much more effective than cardio

    Here's my diet.............

    5:30 - 6 am - elliptical or running
    6:30 am - 1 cup Special K w/ 8 oz skim milk

You need protein here. How about a shake and some EFA's. Thos are all high sugared carbs with no substance. Also, increase the oats to 1/2C.
    I work 7-3:30 am Monday - Friday
9 am - 1/4 cup fat free cottage cheese and 1/3 cup instant Quaker oatmeal.

Increase to the cottage cheese to about 30G protein - that's only 6 G protein
Noon - Fat free yogurt and 1 bannana

Have a salad with grilled and olive oil & vinegar - again this is all just high GI carbs - pure sugar
Workout at gym 1-2 pm -- I used to do weights Mon, Wed & Frid. and cardio on Tues & Thurs.
2 pm bagel w/ 8 oz skim milk

Again, you have no protein. Immediately after your workout you need protein like a shake and carbs. Preferably slow burning carbs seeing your weight training isn't too intense.

4 pm - workout - cardio or walking for 30-45 min.
5:30 eat chicken salad w/ fat free dressing and more veggies

Good place to add either red meat or fish. More EFA's and maybe some brown rice or a legume. you could keep the salad too if you want just get some EFA's
*if I have a big sweet tooth - I eat a coupld of twizzlers???

ditch the twizzlers - there is need for this sugar when you are trying to lose fat

9 pm - 2 oz tuna before bed!

How bout 4 oz. of tuna instead and some EFA

    What do you think?????

    Depends on your goals.

When I'm bulking I don't really count, I just eat healthy and alot more. Maintenance, I just eat healthy and til satisfied. When I cut, I count every bit that goes into my mouth save for high carb days.

Thanks for all your input! I will try and figure my diet / exercise out. If anyone has any sample diet plans, what you eat throughout the day - I read that combination of foods is really good when cutting. If you have anymore input - I would love to hear it. I really want to look top notch!

I will go and buy the Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey. I like to eat the same foods day after day - is this bad??

It's easy and saves time and trouble. I get bored eating the same foods day after day, which sometimes leads to me standing in front of the fridge wailing internally.

The only thing to be careful of is that more than one person I know has developed allergies/sensitivities, particularly to eggs, but also to other proteins, after getting totally intensive on them. I'd recommend at least switching up your proteins every now and then... lean fish (like, the real kind you cook), or fatty fish such as salmon (there go some of those EFAs Jodi was talking about!), other kinds of meats every now and then, specially if you already have any kind of allergies (hayfever etc.) which shows your immune system is already a bit sensitised.

Personally for bread I have a big thing right now for the Ezekiel whole-grain bread -- high protein, high fibre, minimal processing for bread, and yummy.

Have you checked out the Journals on this site?

I've been eating the same thing every day for the past six months, and still find my meals very tasty. However, that has a lot to do with the fact that I'm hungry ALL day. I love my chicken breast boiled in water/ broiled eye of round steak with no seasonings and raw spinach salads. Natural peanut butter, oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potatoes, unsweetened cocoa and Splenda all help me stay on track, they taste like cheats to me.

    Peace.

Basically every day I eat the same thing. I never had any problems. It is just food .
