In a study we went over in one of my classes a while back, atkins was shown to cause weight loss simply due to calorie restriction because atkins is usually high fat, and it fills you up faster.

It is unhealthy if you pick the wrong foods, it makes you feel like crap- irritable. and in the end the study showed it caused weight loss, but bodyfat %-age remained about the same.

First I would try to increase the number of meals- just make them smaller (reduce intake and increases metabolism). Exercise! And about every 8 days, throw in one day with normal food intake (still more meals though) to prevent your body from adjusting to lower calorie intake.

BTW- protein shakes, slim fast shakes, any small meal replacements work great as those extra meals since they are typically low calorie, and have a bunch of vitamins

if you still need diet advice- the zone diet was the only healthy "FAD" diet we covered and had good results- there's a book you can buy with ideas on how to implement it- it's worth a look if you're looking for a well rounded healthy diet

I threw in the slim fast b/c it's a convenient meal replacement- that was all me---I wouldn't recommend that particular diet

Zone diet was the only fad diet to show it can help weight loss and was the least healthy-

By the way. It wasn't my intention to recommend only that- in the first section of the post I stated what I would do.

I only provided those pieces of info b/c people need options, and a lot of times it helps when there is a book on it they can go out and buy. Just look at Atkins- people go out and do stuff that is well known, not b/c it's right. Chances are that people will read about eating 7x a day, and be like bullshit, atkins helped my friend lose 10 lbs in a week.

And so I gave two options: do the right thing, or if you wont believe that or don't have the time to eat extra meals you can substitute meal replacements, or if you still can't do that- go out and buy this book (lesser of many evils) and help yourself

Besides___it was graduate students studies in a body composition course not my instructors for my dietetics courses

Alright, the rest I can understand even if I don't agree.

Not the slim fast though! At very low protein and very high sugar it would hardly qualify as a meal replacement.
