well considering it is very hard to acheive both simutanously. however with different protocols it is possible. if you are just new to lifting then you have an ever greater chance of gaining muscle and loosing fat at the same time.

Its is possible to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, but it takes alot of determination and hardwork. I would suggest either cutting or bulking, and then when you are done with which ever option you choose you can do the other.
