Question Eggs - How much is too much?

I'm currently consuming about 4-5 whole eggs, with 14-18 white eggs on a daily basis. Would you say this is too much?

I mix my eggs together, and just cook it on the frying pan. Sometimes I'll eat them sunny side up, but I prefer mixing them in before putting it on.

Egg yolk fat in moderation is a good thing. The only difficulty with eggs is that next to nuts and dairy, their protein is about as allergenic as you can get. And overconsumption may sensitise you. (At which point, you might never be able to eat eggs again.) That'd be my major argument for spreading out your protein sources.

Prince - Well not fat, just because I have it all planned out in my diet, but I was told by someone that eating so much eggs would be unhealthy for a 17 year old (chloestrol or something).

*shrugs*

atherjen - I'm bulking, I have my goals set with my diet. I get in 2 servings of flax everyday during the night.

Akateros - Overconsumption would sensitise me? Meaning my body would not be able to make use of the protein? I'm guessing by overconsumption you mean over the long run (several years)?

When I was a kid, I started breaking out in a rash for no reason one day. I went to the doctors and they could find nothig wrong with me. A week went by and I kept getting worse and got flu-like symptoms as well. He asked about my diet and when I told him I was eating egg sandwiches 3 times a day he figured that I was now allergic to eggs, which I wasn't before. I didn't eat eggs for like a year and once I stopped eating them my symptoms cleared up instantly. I eat eggs now with absolutely no problem so I guess it can go away as well.

If sense were common, everyone would have it.

No, meaning you'd have allergic reactions -- hives like Dale's, or worse -- right up to anaphylactic shock. And they might decrease with lack of exposure, but then again they might not. Meaning you might never be able to eat eggs again, without breaking out into a rash or possibly dying.

Yolks are high in saturated fat and cholesterol, but the yolks also contain lecithin and other good nutrients. That said, especially since you are consuming 14-18 egg whites day per day, I would cut back the whole egg consumption to 1 or 2 a day.

What is the deal with you and eggs ?
There are a lot of other nice source of protein.
Anyway, I find it hard to believe that you will become eggs intolerant.

Don't panic, Alaric. It's a slim chance; I'm just saying it exists. (An ex-amateur bodybuilder I work with is now allergic to chicken in all forms, for instance.)

It is possibly more likely if you have any other allergies. If you have any other allergic food reactions (to anything at all), or hayfever, etc., then you'd probably be better off trying harder to rotate your proteins. Once the immune system is already "on alert" as it were, it's more likely to jump on a stray and possibly hostile food molecule that it keeps seeing hanging around suspiciously alla damn time.

Then again, of course, there are guys who eat nothing but chicken and eggs and whey in huge quantities for years, and never react to any of it. Luck of the draw.

JerseyDevil - I eat eggs twice a day, for breakfast, and at night. I usually eat 2 whole eggs for breakfast, and 9 egg whites.

Then as my last meal of the day I eat 3 whole eggs, and 9 more egg whites.

Vieope - Since you and JerseyDevil suggest I cut down, I can break that down to 3 whole eggs daily, and get the rest of my fats in from flax during my last meal. I try to get my daily protein sources from 4 different sources:
Whey Shake, Eggs, Chicken Breast, and Lean beef.

However, sometimes that's hard and I'll only get it from 3.

the saturated fat is minimal really. 1.5g/egg, not bad as long as you were watching it elsewhere. dietary cholesterol has also shown to have no effect on blood cholesterol levels.

he speaks the truth. its IS actaully very easy to develop a new allergy by eating the same foods everyday. practicing food rotation doesnt hurt.

Oh well thank you guys for the advice, I think I'm gonna have to end up rotating diets ever 4 weeks or so just to give the body some eating variation.

Since we are on the subject, how many egg whites do you have to eat, to get 35-40 grams of protein?
