Actually the typical bodybuilder's diet is usually good for a diabetic.
low glycemic carbs...high lean protein....smart supplementation
exactly what you should be doing as a diabetic (if you really are)
i would say to monitor your blood sugar often with a home tester...over time you may be able to tell what your sugar is just by feel.
keep an eye on your sugar and keep some glucose tabs on hand to bump up the blood sugar if it drops too low.....just be smart and listen to your body.
let us know the results from the Dr when you get them.
My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right.

i think cutting is what brought this on![]()

I thought that hypoglycemic and diabetic were two completely different things?!?!
Yes. I guess is the opposite of diabetic. I just noticed it now ..Originally posted by CourtQueen

they are different things...but as far as diet goes they can be managed similarly...and isn't it wierd how the "bodybuilding" diet seems to be the answer to all of these problems.....is there something to be said for a healthy diet as a means of preventing disease?....hmmm...ya think?

It's the opposite side of the same coin, so to speak. Stastically, those who are prone to hypoglycemia have a higher chance of developing diabetes at some future date.
Low blood sugar or high blood sugar both imply an impairement in insulin secretion or usage.
In hypoglycemia, the problem is overshooting of insulin (as secreted by the pancreas or underuitlization by peripheral tissues) so that once the foods or substrate is digested, there is more insulin still lingering around and thus the blood sugar plummets. As Dr. Chiro stated, that's why BB diets,( relatively higher in meats etc.) induce less hypoglycemia since less insulin is needed to initially process such low glycemic substrates.
In type II diabetes, ( or insulin resistance) physiology trials show that many times the earliest impairment (long before blood sugars show up as high) is the oversecretion of insulin (delayed insulin response and greater amount secreted) after ingestion of food.
Thus, the propensity for hypoglycemia may imply that diabetes is around the corner, so to speak, and so seeing a doctor is a must as well as avoiding the things that will push peopleover into developing type II diabetes, weight gain, lack of excerciseetc. should be avoided.
We are still sorting out if this happens with Tyupe 1.5 diabetes ( a slow acting autoimmune destruction of the pancreas).. It doesn't happen with type I, which is quick, viral desimation of the pancreas and there is absolutely no insulin production whatsoever.
